  • Nice beach near to American Village, sea sports are readily available and it’s a quiet, charming area.  more »
  • This is my favorite Beach on the main island of Okinawa. Get too crowded and a beautiful beach is white sand. It is often all day loafing.

  • Gap Beach (11 March) is a quiet season, there were people who just only. While listening to the waves blowing in the breeze while sitting was very pleasant. It's not swimming in parking location, is a sandy beach, very good, but sorry.

  • Beautiful beach. Not crowded at all. Shore is not rocky. Suitable for swimming lovers. Coin locker is available in the shower area. You can rent parasol, beach mat etc..
  • Seriously, the lie has to stop!!!!! Araha is an man-made (artificial) beach along some average residential area. Why would anybody spent $$$$$ flying to Okinawa, pay another $$$$$ to stay in Chatan, to be at an artificial beach????? The real area is NOTHING like all those Photoshop pictures! When I first arrived, it was low tide. The beach looked like a mud pond with an industrial surroundings. The water muddy, swim area pathetically small (if you could swim at all). The only saving grace of this beach is the clear view of the sunset. Nothing more. Go visit a real beach elsewhere in Okinawa!
  • Very small artificial beach. Beautiful in the morning. Pirate ship playground nearby is great. Outstanding slide!
  • Sand is great. Area is also nice. Beware of "Dangerous Jellyfish" season (currently experiencing in June) as they close off most of the water to swimming leaving waist deep water with no cool fish/things to explore. Beach is also fairly close to American Village (15 min walk) and has a Lawson's across the street. Water clarity isint the best on the island especially if windy/low to high tide. Great place to just catch rays and maybe play volleyball if the wind isint too bad.
  • Nice beach with rentals ranging from play sets to bbq grills with tents and seating. Playground and basketball court right on the beach side. There's a few night spots down on the north end. Can get crowded and hard to grab parking, but it is a great relaxing spot.

Where to stay in Chatan-cho

Most visitors to Chatan-cho are seeking out a beachside holiday, so naturally most accommodations in town sit right on the coast. The beach to the north offers a selection of mid-range hotels and rental apartments near the sea, while the area of waterfront development around the American Village Ferris wheel has a collection of upmarket hotels close to some of the most popular restaurants. Budget-friendly guesthouses and rentals lie in the more residential districts inland.
