Shirogane Blue Pond, Biei-cho

Water Body · Nature / Park
Rather obviously named after its deep blue color, Shirogane Blue Pond originally served as part of an erosion control system essential to protecting Biei from a potential Mount Tokachidake eruption. Located next to the hot spring destination Shirogane Onsen, this site provides visitors with a scenic place to walk and take photos. It takes less than ten minutes to walk through the wooded area and arrive at this body of water. • Blue as it can get. What a natural beauty. Calm and picturesque. There is a stream nearby as well. The young and old will definitely enjoy the scenery. Went during November, Autumn season, it was...  more »
  • I was not visiting at the right time of the year. I came in when the pond was already totally frozen, not great for photography. Much much better if able see the blue pond or only partly frozen. Now.....  more »
  • I liked it here, although the pond itself, whilst nice and interesting to see, was not the only attraction here. I personally found the overall environment and insects and smells and sounds to be a...  more »
  • If it hadn't been for the crowd, I wouldn't have known there was a pond there. It was completely covered in snow with no sign of blue whatsoever. I would recommend people to visit here during warmer seasons.
  • Nice but try not to go during winter and night time as can’t really see the pond. During the night it is due to the blue light shining on the pond. But overall a nice place to visit.
  • Really2 pretty site, i recommend if you want to visit this site to take a local tour, you can start from asahikawa station or biei station, it cost 7000yen per adult. because this place is pretty remote and local bus will stop their operation at 18.00. in winter times, the pond itself is covered with snow, so it is better to see it at night with the illumination.
  • This man-made pond has a turquoise blue color water. It can be easily reached from a free parking lot, within 5 minutes walking. I came here while travelling the area to visit shikisai no oka park. Just made a short detour. The pond is not that big but quite attractive. In the surroundings there are nothing to do other than enjoying the vista.
  • Must go, please go before sunset to capture both day time and night time view. They have night lighting to help photographer to take creative pictures. Be aware: Please make sure you have snow shoes on, the stairs are very slippery, please make sure elderly and disable person are taken care of. Snow snows will help with grips and deep snow in the area. Definitely Worth visiting.
