Shirahige Falls, Biei-cho

4.0
Witness the raw beauty of nature at Shirahige Falls, where water graciously cascades down a mossy rock face. Mineral-rich water forms a curtain of whitewash, which falls down the rock face before revealing its cobalt blue color in the river below. Majestic views of the waterfall are completed by the Taisetsu Mountains in the background. If you're a keen photographer, bring an ultra-wide lens to capture both the waterfall and the nearby mountain range in your shots. • Went there in February and the waterfall was slightly icy. Nonetheless the view is still breathtaking. Short walk from carpark is a plus. Recommended to go with blue pond as they are both nearby.  more »
  • From Asahikawa station, we took a train at 5.39am to Biei Station with our JR pass. The train arrive Biei Station at 6:18am. It was really chilly as compared to Asahikawa. Make sure you wear warmly. Y...  more »
  • This waterfall is in the green pond to go a little bit of place, parked on the railroad bridge can directly see the noisy burn waterfall, we go in the winter, the ice is heavy, but the waterfall is not yet frozen in the spring, but the tributaries of the adjacent branches have become icicles, with a smoke of steam, is very special experience. and free to watch.

  • Nice waterfall near onsen hotels, however only can be observed from the bridge, rest of areas are off limits. (Or were when I visited end of November). Cool to see the steam when all around is covered in snow, and colour of water is just stunning blue/turquoise.
  • An amazing place to visit especially for photography lovers and families. There are some onsens and restaurants nearby so consider this place a good choice to visit and snap photos for people stay nearby.
  • Amazing place. Would be nicer if we can get closer..
  • Is a small waterfall that can be beautiful if not for the bridge just next to it
  • Stunning view in winter.. But it's cold 😉
