Ken & Mary Tree, Biei-cho

3.1
#2 of 8 in Scenic Drive in Hokkaido
A giant, 80-year-old poplar tree made famous by a 1972 Nissan ad campaign, Ken & Mary Tree stands alone in a mustard field against rolling hills and vast fields. Named after two characters in the commercial, the tree stands out as a landmark of Biei region, and even gives its name to a nearby bed and breakfast. Bizarre for most outsiders as a tourist attraction, the location makes a nice stopover if you are driving in the area. You can reach the famous poplar in 10 minutes by car from Biei railway station, or rent a bicycle at the station. Oh man! The Buri several decades went to see skyline. Appeared in COMMERCIALS for skyline, another is dead!. But I still loved by local NAA. I was impressed on the energetic stretching toward the sky, dying without a single poplar tree. Match the views around the weather was nice, I enjoyed the biei.

The tree made famous by an old advert series for the Nissan Skyline. Only worth visiting if you are old and remember the ads, or yiu just like visiting famous tourist sites.

It is a solitary tree by the road side made popular . Many people stop for photo taking . There is parking nearby

Totally NOT worth stopping for. It's just a plain old tree beside a narrow road. There's a cafe right across the road but they won't let you take photos of the tree unless you order food.

I go in late October with cloudy sky. maybe it because of the weather, it's not beautiful as I expected

Just a tree. Nothing really special. Just because of the commercial
