Blue Pond, Biei-cho

4.0
Rather obviously named after its deep blue color, Blue Pond originally served as part of an erosion control system essential to protecting Biei from a potential Mount Tokachidake eruption. Located next to the hot spring destination Shirogane Onsen, this site provides visitors with a scenic place to walk and take photos. It takes less than ten minutes to walk through the wooded area and arrive at this body of water. • Oct 17 Our driver "Seki" brought us here unexpectedly since the one scheduled was closed. Thus I didn't know what to expect but the Blue Pond very quickly came into view and captured my awe and amazem...  more »
  • For example, if we want to wait until dusk to take good photos waiting in the car but no. Very special landscape.

  • Even smaller than I thought going into the water was turquoise blue than around 5 pm I was already too dark to arrive did not look good in this weather is too cold, it's hard to just stand there, seems to be made of a special, instead of memories was troubled and rewarding others I'm not sure if this should get a non-place, just like

  • Beautiful blue pond. Good for taking pictures but unfortunately they didnt turn out too nice on my camera. Definitely need to drive to get in here. There are some potholes on the way in so do drive slowly and carefully. Walk further in to see the snow-capped mountains behind the river that the blue pond flows into, it's a really magnificent sight.
  • If you haven't seen a blue pond before, this is a good sight setting and photography spot. The blue and semi clear water is really cool.
  • A semi man made lake (pond?) with a milky turquoise hue and a mystical aura that surrounds it. Best visited early in the morning or late in the evening when there would be less tourists, as this place seems to be very popular.
  • We came here after the tourist season in late October, so the place was very quiet and tranquil, devoid of the large tour buses and the hordes of people. It's really wonderful to enjoy the place in peace.
  • Was good to visit. Got parking lot but seems like it's not enough for peak season. Worth to visit if you also plan to go to the waterfall near there.
