Blue Pond, Biei-cho

4.1
Rather obviously named after its deep blue color, Blue Pond originally served as part of an erosion control system essential to protecting Biei from a potential Mount Tokachidake eruption. Located next to the hot spring destination Shirogane Onsen, this site provides visitors with a scenic place to walk and take photos. It takes less than ten minutes to walk through the wooded area and arrive at this body of water. • This day was not so blue. Do you feel close to the emerald-green? How has just stood up out of the water is clean, clean. Together with contrail airplane flies on sunny days, well balanced. I want to go in the winter!

  • Joined a tour organized by the tourism office to come here. It’s 2500yen for the tour but if you stay in a hotel in Biei, you can get a refund of 500yen. Beautiful place. The pictures speak for themse...  more »
  • I went to 11 months. Blue, look like in the photo because it was cloudy but not enough was fantastic. Overflowed with Asian tourists.

  • Very beautiful pond that its a must to visit… Been there twice two different season still will go there again in future
  • Missed the pond being blue, as re-froze the day I got there. Illuminated from 17:00 during winter/frozen times to show the blue-ness coming from minerals in the water however the bus-schedule leaves around 16:45 (the next is 18:19) so I missed that too - middle of snow/Gale storm didn't wait there another 1.5 hours.... But area is great looking!
  • It was difficult to get around if you don't drive. May I please reiterate that it is very very difficult to get around. The buses there are slow and they have only 4 rounds of buses that past there every weekday.( Different for weekends) from the time we alight from the bus stop and walk to the blue pond we had only 10mins to take pics and after that we have to return to the bus stop to take the bus back to town. Otherwise you'd have to wait another 2 hours to go back to town. It was sick.... I wished they approved grab or uber in Japan. This way we all get better transport services.. Please enjoy some of the pictures I took there.
  • Might be best to get around the place if you have a car.. the water of the lake doesnt look blue from the entrance point - walk further in to realise that the colour turns deeper into a grey-scaled blue. The view is definitely beautiful! Be careful if you are arriving during winter, the floor will be slippery.
  • simply a gorgeous spot, especially with good weather. impressive. plenty of space for car parking. it was very crowded when the local tour started visiting. One BIG problem : ther is no toilet nearby
