Blue Pond, Biei-cho

4.1
Rather obviously named after its deep blue color, Blue Pond originally served as part of an erosion control system essential to protecting Biei from a potential Mount Tokachidake eruption. Located next to the hot spring destination Shirogane Onsen, this site provides visitors with a scenic place to walk and take photos. It takes less than ten minutes to walk through the wooded area and arrive at this body of water. • I went to the blue years Buri pond. Road in the direction of Silver Springs after enjoying flower garden lined with many colorful bands on a hill gently billowing in the hills of Shikisai road 10 km run is a blue pond parking area. From there walk a couple of minutes. This day is like a cobalt blue color pond greeted us. Background blue pond, where the great fall when visited forests (larch?) the leaves had fallen, but this is the summer. Blueness of the vivid green forests, blue pond were spacious and lovely.

  • Amazing every season. Be sure to wear warmly as it gets chilly and there are no shelters within walking distance (except your car). During winter you don't really see the signature blue waters as it's frozen, but the light show more than makes up for it.
  • Blue pond is actually emerald blue. It's just about 33mins drive from Farm Tomita. Pretty cool!
  • The Blue Pond of Biei, Hokkaido. Gorgeous scenery made famous by the Apple MacBook because it was one of the default wallpapers. Difficult access. Options may include driving, bus tour or bike tour. Bus tours would only allow 15 minutes so if you really want to enjoy the view, rent a car.
  • The blue pond is covered by snow during the winter time, majic water cannot be seen. However, it is illuminated in the evening by color changing lights. It is impressive or not depends on one's mood during the colorful light show. It is freezing out there and need to take some time to drive to the spot from Asahikawa. It is still worth a look at the spot during visiting Furano.
  • Great scenery! On an unrelated side note: there are no toilets in there though.
