Witness but don't bathe in Hells of Beppu, a series of boiling pools created by volcanic activity. All eight thermal ponds offer something different, with one producing mud bubbles and feeding into an adjacent foot bath, another colored bright red and presenting an uncanny and photogenic appearance, and a third serving as a breeding space for crocodiles. Travel easily between the "hells" by bus tour or car. Put Hells of Beppu into our Beppu family vacation planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Beppu.

  • Went to this area as seemed less touristy, visited one hell with red water, also there was a foot bath with very hot water, but a wonderful bonus to relax tired feet after a long hike
