Completed in 645 CE, Senso-ji Temple holds the status of being the oldest temple in Tokyo. The temple grounds contain an independent Buddhist temple and a Shinto shrine. Enter through the imposing Thunder Gate and walk the shopping street, lined with about 90 food and souvenir shops and dating back to the early 18th century, up to the main hall. The temple complex, including the main hall, contains buildings both historic and reconstructed since World War II. Don’t miss the five-story pagoda and the garden and pond surrounding the "Demboin" (high priest’s residence). This place was really incredible. (Though if you’re not a fan of smoke be careful towards the middle.) Really colorful, great photo opportunities, and getting my fortune at the start of the new year.... more »

One the the most beautiful temple I've seen....there are so many art works and sculpture which represents Japanese culture.. Day/night you can see it in different way. The beauty of the temple is unquestionably amazing. Its a nice place to spend the weekend alone or with your family. It is a famous tourist spot in the heart of the city. There are so many street foods as well souvenir shops.
One of the most incredible places I have ever known. An immense temple, full of fabulous pagodas, statues, etc. The entrance is monumental. A very nice fair, where you can find thousands of souvenirs, in addition to good food. Every corner, every temple is a charm. Washing your hands in one of the fountains, following the ritual that is informed prepares us for a fantastic experience. Full of people, it is, at the same time, super organized and clean. A place that you must spend hours to get to know and take incredible photos.
Worth to visit there especially at night !!!! Instagram: momo_jp_uk_cr
Beautiful time to visit, not crowded at all and could walk through the Main Street with ease. A must see place in Tokyo, really good contrast of the current modern city and traditional Japan. Lots of local food stalls with great cuisine available as well 👌
Its an all time favorite place to visit in Tokyo. I have visited here at various times in the day, night and every time its a amazing. Quite centrally located and many places to visit around. Shopping streets here are very lively. Sumeda river is just a few hundred meters away and offers amazing view. If you are keen, a whole day can be spent here in the radius of 2km around temple.
