Tsurugajo Castle, Aizuwakamatsu

(4/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Visit Tsurugajo Castle to explore one of finest examples of traditional Japanese castles and a last refuge of the samurai. The castle suffered a turbulent history, ranging from natural disasters to sieges, which damaged its facade multiple times and led to many restorations. Today a concrete replica, rebuilt thanks to local enthusiasm, stands 34 m (111 ft) tall on its ancient foundation, complete with an elegant tiered tenshu (tower), reconstructed in 1965. Climb up the tower to reach the museum inside and the observation gallery on the top, offering panoramic views of the city. Work out when and for how long to visit Tsurugajo Castle and other Aizuwakamatsu attractions using our handy Aizuwakamatsu itinerary maker.

  • I visited in the rain. It was mid-April, but cherry was still bad in the bud. End of the month may be at their best. Castle and the tea house set ticket 510 yen, was admission. In the style of the Museum is a five-layer structure of modern architecture, but think carefully and learn the history. This is a great 360 degree views from the top floor.

  • Personally I find this castle quite small compared to some others I have been but I was rather impressed that they have English subs in their short video clips and exhibits which was very helpful for ...  more »
  • I went to last summer (in 2016). Time 4:00 PM because it was near the East parking area (full parking lot? ) To the parked around the West circle parking lot is for only a season or unpaved parking lot is told to stop closing at 5, I was, but was a bit. In the ninomaru (think slowly to see how good another parking lot), through the Corridor bridge to the Castle. Inside the Nagoya Castle and the same, built in reinforced concrete. While watching the exhibits to the Castle. I think it should go in the castle can be seen around outside, the weather is good. On a whirlwind tour around the it was 50 minutes long. In the Park (free area) couldn't see much.
