Tsuruga Castle, Aizuwakamatsu

Visit Tsuruga Castle to explore one of finest examples of traditional Japanese castles and a last refuge of the samurai. The castle suffered a turbulent history, ranging from natural disasters to sieges, which damaged its facade multiple times and led to many restorations. Today a concrete replica, rebuilt thanks to local enthusiasm, stands 34 m (111 ft) tall on its ancient foundation, complete with an elegant tiered tenshu (tower), reconstructed in 1965. Climb up the tower to reach the museum inside and the observation gallery on the top, offering panoramic views of the city. • I stopped by passing near the family home of his mother, so I went home. That makes a visit a few years Buri. It feels different. To mark its 50th anniversary, the repaint and! Personally I liked the color before! So is fall foliage season, it was crowded, but the powerful Castle views from every direction. Nokyo tourist office is unusual in the Castle-sho. In Japan the nokyo-sho in the castle only four!

  • Awesome castle very great history of the castle in the tour! It has a great view of Aizu from the top of the castle! Takes about an hour to go through if you go to each exhibit and read through all the educational aspect You get a discount if you buy the bus tour day pass which I highly recommend! Going during the cherry blossom season is the best estimated around April!
  • Reconstructed castle with museum inside - very similar concept to Osaka castle. However, the displays are, IMO, better presented than Osaka castle, crowds smaller and lots of interesting facts on the Boshin War (civil war in Japan between Emperor and Shogunate on the verge of westernization in the 1800s) that outline society in Japan back in the day. Worth a visit for a look into Japanese history.
  • We were able to have a guide for free. In Japanese.
  • If you want to see and learn about important events in Japanese history, this is a must see location. Do a little reading online before you visit so you can appreciate the trip.
  • Aizu clan's impressive reconstructed castle overseeing the city of Aizu Wakamatsu. It has great historical display of Boshin war. Yes house loved by the Lord in the castle garden.

The main urban area of Aizuwakamatsu offers a number of standard hotels, with some newly built luxury options added into the mix around the city office and the main stops of the train line. However, a greater variety of accommodations lies to the southeast of the town center, by the banks of a river. Here, a mix of modern spa hotels and traditional ryokans with Japanese-style rooms and onsite onsens benefit from the pleasant riverside scenery.
