  • It definitely takes some effort, but once you reach the top the view is breathtaking. The jungle has lots of birds and other animals for those who are interested in that sort of thing.

  • The goal is to make the night hike to get up before the sun rises. Only recommended for hikers accustomed to the mountain. Not recommended for hikers of plain, where the marchers on Sunday. Be well equipped in shoes or sticks. We left the Leeds Hotel at Red Light (on the road between Papine-Kingston and Buff Bay). After 2 hours of freestyle 4 x 4, we had to climb 700 m of elevation in 3 hours. Very stony path on the first part, very hard to climb. I was very very out of breath. We reach the entrance of the Park. Paid access but we have seen no one (we saw on the way back, they tried to make us pay more, but it was already included in the package price of the guide). We fill his flask because it's already empty. On the second part, it is forest. It's more fun. This isn't a rainforest with bananas, monkeys, beautiful flowers. It is night, moths thousands live in my eyes because of the headlamp. We hurry up. If you can't when you arrive at the large wooden railing, stay here, do not continue. So much for the guide and the view at the top. Me I continued, still 1 h 30 hiking at breakneck speed. There are few other places with a view of the mountains. Even my boyfriend who did the army said that the pace was very high. Arrived in top, too late for the Sunrise, he already stood up for at least 20 minutes, at the time, I have not seen the expected effect, disappointing when we pay $ 100 each for a visit privée(taxi 4x4 aller-retour, snack cacahuète et mini sandwich àle thon, prêt de lampe frontale inclus). At the top, lots of plants and trees obstruct the view. It is very cold at the top, provide for a sweater and a windbreaker. The clouds pass just above our heads, it's the only nice thing to see. Plan a coffee because we have not had :-( After 30 minutes on the top, back down on the run! We then discovered the plants in daytime vision. Ferns form giant trees, as in Jurassic Park! A few bird songs. Nothing fantastic. It is very hot during the descent, the heat of the day rising by the minute. Then 2 hour return drive. You can see the mountains of day, it's more fun. We see people, trees and fruits. In the end, $ 200 it's overpriced paycheck. Of course, we would have been more numerous, we could divide the sum by the number of hikers. Prefer to take a taxi and go up the road north of Red Light. There is a somewhat higher hostel and especially a hotel almost to the Summit. From here you should see the blue of the mountains, without effort! And then you can go to enjoy a coffee at Alex Twyman (Green Hills, Portand). The bag cost US $ 30.
