Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, Yamoussoukro

Must see · Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Listed by the "Guinness Book of Records" as the world's largest church, Basilica of Our Lady of Peace covers an area of 30,000 sq m (322,917 sq ft). Though only a third of the population of Cote d'Ivoire is Christian, this basilica has enough space to accommodate 18,000 worshippers. President Felix Houphouet-Boigny built this structure between 1983 and 1989 as a monument to himself, commissioning a stained glass window with his portrait on it as the centerpiece of the basilica. Though the attraction has become a controversial symbol of extravagance, it remains the main house of worship for Catholics here. • It is a very beautiful cathedral with exquisite beauty and precision. It is one of the largest churches in the world. Construction of this church was completed in the year 1989.
  • Waouh! I just have a renewed great positive impression. I visited this holy place twenty years ago and still feel such a sensation. Not only a great spiritual site to be for refreshment and retreat but also a culturally and artistically rich monument to visit!
  • Infact it's built so special n I think everyone must visit this place or worship here as am doing today.
  • Awesome place to be, Wondering the amount of funds invested into erecting such huge monument.
