  • It is one of the few Roman theatres still standing scenic facilities; part of the baths to visit

  • Leveraging the slopes of Tuff spur on which Volterra, the Romans built their Theater here too. On the back you can see the remains of the baths that stood on this side of town. As the city was higher than the theater the characteristic of this Amphitheater was to have public entrances placed high: 11 "vomitoria" allowed the entry of spectators and the stage was graced by two rows of columns superimposed. The view from the top of the steps of the Amphitheatre of the surrounding hills the city is the "homage" included in the entrance fee!

  • The theatre was built in the first century BC and brought to light from excavations carried out in mid ' 900. Clssica, large in shape (it is estimated that would contain dhanasekar 3500 spectators) and with an impressive scenic articulation. I agree with those who note a certain carelessness nalla maintenance. Cleaned up and with a few tweaks to make safe, could be restored to its original function with summer shows.

  • Beautiful view from the ledge above. A must see site in Volterra!
  • Wonderful well-preserved Roman amphitheater built for 2000 people! There were exhibition of ancient gladiator's fights this time on the stage there but unfortunately security has expelled us because of closing time (17:30) :-(
  • Beautiful rinse on a gorgeous seeing
  • Cool site in a city that predates the Romans... Avoid paying to enter the site by walking above on Volterra streets for FREE.
  • We observed from outside at the suggestion of many locals who were advised to save € 5 tickets. No doubt about it, is a plunge into the Imperial age, just outside Porta Fiorentina.
