We are in the beautiful area which is the Tuscia laziale, so rich in historical ancient in an almost primitive that it leaves the heart. Historical and architectural preserve memories Etruscan land amazing elective, and among these, well hidden from view, the Hermitage of Poggio Conte. You will find it not far from Ischia di Castro, and you can reach it with the SP 109, branching from the 116. Take the 109 for 2 km and on your right you will get a small dirt road downhill (Alternatively follow the path of Briganti, reported, which runs along the river). If you are driving follow it, is a bit narrow, dirt road and get off at valle del Fiora in an ancient landscape, where cattle and sheep graze Banga, until you get to a bar. Here begins the short path that winds between the Fiora, right, and tufa benches left. Follow the path that enters the Woods and suddenly you will hear the sound of a waterfall. Behold, descends from the Tuff Cliff where you dug the Hermitage, which is a system of stairs. The place is timeless. A church in the tufa rock, the early Middle Ages, decorated with frescoes, Lotus flowers and palmettes. Some say was originally a Templar building (in part because of the proximity of the disappeared convent of St. Colombamo, the patron saint of the order of the temple, depicted in one of the frescoes), other work of the Benedictines Cistercians, others by a Greek-Byzantine communities fleeing during the fight at iconoclastie (700 ad). Whatever the origin of the Hermitage, the place will enchant you with its beauty and its sacredness. Contact the Archaeological Museum of Ischia di Castro if you want to drive in this wonder.

The Hermitage is just an easy path that once you get off the road runs along the River in a truly beautiful. The Hermitage is a bit higher than the river and it really invites to meditation. There is almost a small natural Amphitheater with a beautiful waterfall that flows from above. A small path going up further leads to various places where they slept and prayed i romiti, unfortunately, worn by time. Pausing a bit in this place you will understand why i romiti had chosen for raccoglierrsi in prayer and meditation.
