  • Pietro made me visit the graves keys to this beautiful place, with lots of explanations and background (despite the rain). Nice variety of "domus of janas", ideal to understand some of the civilizations who have preceded us.

  • We came with the intention to know the site and understand its potential for a tour of the Americans. Accompanied by Peter Maddy were thrilled with the site, the explanations, the beauty of the landscape around us. All kept beautifully and scores of Domus de Janas there ready to be discovered, each in its uniqueness! Thanks Peter, we will bring our guests!!!

  • We have been to Montessu to visit the necropolis. ticket 5 euros and accompanied by a guide. The place is charming and very attractive. Read before you begin your visit and give up driving. If you the same person who came to us, didn't you learn anything from her! You will hear a series of superficial information and told as a bedtime story. In addition despite the tombs are about 35 there will only show 5!!! Leave with regret to be got there and I saw almost nothing compared to the wealth of the place ...

  • Beautiful archaeological site, you can visit some of the subterranean tombs the largest in Sardinia. The site is large, encompassing an entire Hill and about 35 tombs of various types (well, a furnace, a horizontal extension). You can take advantage of guided tours during every day of the year at various times both morning and afternoon. The guides are very prepared and available. Tickets cost €5 (January 2018) and the guided tour is included.

  • One of the most extensive archaeological site in Sardinia, with regard to the domus de janas whose excavation, in this case, is traced back to the beginning of the 3rd millennium BC. The domus graves in which were deposited were the bones of the deceased who, presumably, were reassembled in a Fetal position in the various cells. There are some very large, with several cells linked together and, in a few cases, however, even on multiple levels. In any case have been subject to changes, which occurred in times even distant from each other and, therefore, there were also various uses reuses, until relatively recently, until the 60 's of the last century. In some cases were used as quarries for recovery of stone material, useful for building artifacts, since this is a site where the volcanic trachyte. In some tombs, placed at the ends of the natural amphitheatre, are visible, especially in low relief, spirals, Wolf's teeth and c.d. signs taurini (which, perhaps more properly, some interpret as a representation of the female sexual). In some tombs, then, there are shells that are considered as representing, in negative, of the female breast. Among the artefacts found there are several stone statues of the "mother". All symbols that represent fertility by virtue of the fact that the types of the graves are proper to worship propitiatory of rebirth. Things to consider that, for this reason, the site were officiated incubation rituals because, especially in the vicinity of the larger tombs and monuments, are visible stones stuck in the ground that delimited spaces used as sanctuaries . There is also some rest by later graves, above ground, made the system defined for "allée couverte" whose evolution, even if not here, produced some "giant's grave". The original site is considered as a place of deposition of individuals belonging to a village whose tracks were found near the current village of Villaperuccio, on the left side of the road leading to Santadi.

  • Very nice site and well maintained, suggestive, immersed in a landscape so interesting. Nature trail rich in vegetation. Council clothing and trekking shoes. Visited in September, given the low turnout has not been possible to enjoy a guided tour. Too bad, it would have been much more satisfying to make a guided path! Along the way a few placards and a few explanations. Only reference is a map that is delivered at the entrance. At the end of the path (1:40) in the building of the ticket office you can read numerous explanatory boards well done to help you understand.

  • A very extensive Archaeological Park and rich in pre-nuraghic civilization. Very impressive, immersed in the countryside of Sulcis Iglesiente. Council to bring walking shoes, hat and water because paths are sunny and challenging in some places. You could do more in terms of visitor engagement and description of areas (for example via app with audio guides and/or dynamic descriptions etc.) but it's a place that deserves to be visited.

  • Nice site with great views. Entrance €5 which is deserved. You arrive on first parking where you have toilets and a bar, as well as the ticket office. Then it shows you a second parking above from which you take a steep staircase. You have to play. On the site of the stone around the olive trees benches are handy to rest in the shade or a picnic.
