  • Perched on a hill that enhances its strategic position of complete control, even on major roads coming from the Apennines, the Cisa and the Garfagnana, the impressive Malaspina Castle of Malgrate with its characteristic round tower dominates the Valley of the river for centuries Bagnone, a tributary of the Lean this fortification with a formidable cylindrical donjon was developed in 1275, but its origin is undoubtedly much older and from then on his slender Tower 25 metres high, waved the banner of Marquis Malaspina, becoming increasingly greater importance over time and becoming in 1351 independent fief and residence of the feudal Lord. For centuries was the center of military events of Lunigiana undergoing repeated destruction and today, after several major restorations, presents itself to visitors as a classic medieval fortress with curtain wall, trapezoid-shaped, with Guelph battlements and walls projecting corner towers, loopholes, escarpments, walkway and Central keep. While devoid of furniture inside, the visit is leaving anyway.

  • We visited the Castle of Malgrate in August: beautiful and magical. Council to inspect it to all who are in the area

  • Whereas the castle is completely bare of furnishings and whatever else the visit you can't define. Note on the fact that it was renovated and opened to the public saw the State was reduced before the work carried out. Everything is documented photographically with explanations in a Hall of the Castle. Demerit instead for total closure to the public of the Tower from which surely you would enjoy a splendid panorama. Very nice and charming village that maintains practically intact its medieval appearance apart from some buildings damaged by the modern plaster.
