Vincenzo Solimene, who has been operatine since 1947 and whose family has been working for more than a century in the ceramic business, engaged the Architect Paolo Soleri to plan a building to house his new factory in 1951.

It was completed by 1954 and was called “ Ceramica Artistica Solimene”. It is one of the most significant buildings of this century, standing on solid rock in the small town of Vietri sul Mare on the Amalfitan coast, which is famous for its ancient tradition of ceramic craftmanship going back to the 15th century. Its production of crockery, floor and wall tiles, worked and painted entirely by hand, combines the use of ancient techniques, such as the use of the potter’s wheel, with the very latest in modern tecnology in order to guarantee the strength and durability of its crockery even when washed in modern dishwashers. The great versatility in the decoration, in the shapes and in the lead free glaze, which is the result of continual study and research, allows us to satisfi any customer requirement and also enables us to create new products on request. The “Ceramica Artistica Solimene” exports all over the world, and also holds exhibitions and courses for the training of young people in the art of ceramic production, thanks to the “Centro Studi D’Arte Vietrese” which holds annual courses, authorized by the Campania Region.

Welcome nowhere. If you try to go towards an object that interests you, a Lady tells you, with making rude, to move around and go to a hallway full apparently leftovers of production (plates, crockery). Other employees will look at you and say absolutely nothing. When I try to get something to the Lady, she replies without getting close to go to another store and everything I couldn't even get what I wanted. Want to sell zero!

We were at Easter in this site cluttered and dusty. Perhaps a bit of charm on the outside, but as soon as you enter you see that ends there. Dust, dishes stacked in a precarious balance, chipped, and at a price that is not worth the sacrifice of having to tuck the sleeves and try the dishes one by one, trying not to destroy everything you have around. I decided not to try, but to buy a new dishes, freshly painted. I have them sorted. 15 euros each. 12 dishes more 2 appetizer plates (12 euros). And from there began an Odyssey: phone calls, went in person, recalled ... No, each time a different excuse, some unfriendly responses, no professionalism and courtesy. I gave a deposit of 100 euros. I asked to return them several times over this 3 and a half months of waiting ... And still nothing ... They say that the dishes are in the works and cannot restituormi the money. Don't go! Vietri is full of other shops with superior quality and for sure you don't cheat!

Walking through vietri sul mare we stumbled on the pottery factory solimene. I think it's the largest tiled building. Selling all kinds of souvenirs.

  • one crazy showroom where you can admire their products. Great suggestions also from the staff. I had a single problem since in the carriage broke down the sink. I was promptly replaced! vote 10 +
