  • The castle is a beautiful place to visit, from the top you can enjoy a breathtaking view. Too bad that with regard to view coins some PCs don't work ...

  • The castle was worth it. Beautiful surroundings and beautiful museum. A part of the ramparts was closed so we could not. For the rest fine experience.

  • A very beautiful small castle on top of the hill in Vibo. Offers a beautiful 360 degree view over the whole county. Especially good for children, as entry fees are free.
  • This place is not accessible, probably closed down permanently as it seems pretty runed down
  • Well place..

  • Despite being identified with the name of Norman-Swabian Castle to Vibo Valentia, the medieval Monteleone, does not retain any property due at that time. On the other hand the new conquerors, the Normans having elected Miletus capital, they had probably no need to erect new fortifications. It is likely, however, that in order to protect the Hill place in the top tier, where stood the Acropolis of the ancient Greek city, they built a camp, supposedly protected by a wooden Palisade, planting of the curtains. A source, the Chronicle of the monk Goffredo Malaterra, indeed remember sixty soldiers sent by Robert Guiscard headed Brother Roger in "altiori cacumine montium Vibonetium castrametatus, ut, longe lateque visus, fixit tentoria incolas circumquaque facilus deterret ". Striking a recent hypothesis that identifies the monte pore, which rises to a height of 710 meters above sea level on the plateau, with the highest part of the colli vibonesi, rather than with the headquarters of the present Castle. Then the excerpt of the gran count Ruggero Malaterra, historical chronicler, considered one of the most important sources on the Norman Conquest, was misinterpreted, especially by scholars of the nineteenth century, perhaps not entirely coincidental, as ascribing to the Normans the first building in the Castle area intended to nobilitarne sources. But the careful study of historical sources, combined with a reading of the building and construction phases, have led scholars to assert that there are facilities related to the Norman period.
