Villa Mosconi Bertani, Verona

4.5
#5 of 50 in Wineries in Province of Verona
The Villa Mosconi Bertani is a neoclassical manor in the Veneto region of Italy. It is located in the municipality of Negrar, Località Novare, Valpolicella, in the province of Verona. It is only the Veronese estate since the beginning of the 18th century specifically constructed for the purpose of wine production. It consists of a residence, large cellar and orchard . The complex is listed and protected as historic landmark by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities . The villa, park and winery are open to the public for guided tours, cultural events and private parties.HistoryConstruction of the villa began around 1735 under the Fattori family, on the same wing as an existing 16th-century wine cellar and on the original site of an ancient arusnate settlement which later became a settlement from the Roman period. It was then sold, unfinished, to Mosconi in 1769, who completed the estate by adding an eight hectare English-style Romantic garden. He also expanded the wine business. During the Mosconi period, the villa became an important intellectual and literary salon, frequented by cultural figures, including the poet, Ippolito Pindemonte. By the first half of the 20th century, the villa had suffered years of neglect and vandalism. Parts of the garden and some of its rooms fell into complete disrepair. In 1953, it was bought and restored by the Bertani family to house the headquarters of their eponymous wine cellar.ArchitectureThe complex consists of a main building with two lower advancing wings, ending in two symmetrical facades. The bell tower of the chapel, dedicated to St. Gaetano, is built on the east wing. Gates on both wings grant access to the laborers’ housing and the cellars. Commissioned by the first owner of the estate Giacomo Fattori, the construction of the entire complex —consisting of the central structure of the villa, the chapel and cellars— was originally designed by the architect Lodovico Perini and completed in the first half of the 18th century by the Veronese Adriano Cristofali. Fattori ordered the construction to replace an existing 16th-century residence.

  • A fantastic villa that hosts one of the famous families who produce amarone. We were immediately met with the typical local heat that followed us throughout the tour. A beautiful place and steeped in history. Subsequently we performed a wine tasting really great quality. For those who enjoy wine tasting and the countryside is a wonderful place and, for the quality it offers, it has great value for the price.

  • visited on Saturday at 16.00 hours thanks to the availability of the girl who runs the tours despite that afternoon the villa was closed for an event. Gorgeous Villa, both internally and with regard to the outdoor garden. Visit even more appreciated thanks to the wine tasting that does one end around. by the way: also nice cellars! • Fantastic location for walking. Area surrounded by vineyards surrounded by rolling hills, we come to the villa by car, but better to leave it at the beginning of the road which then flows, no longer through the vineyards to 800 metres, then arrive at the villa. For those who want to walk or run, right behind the villa there is a magnificent route which climbs the Hill, among vineyards, sunshine and tranquillity. Wine lovers can also find a wine shop with excellent bottles.

  • Myself and three friends visited Villa Mosconi Bertani and had a your tour of the estate as well as the wine tasting. The grounds and buildings are beautiful and excellently maintained, and the tour was was informative and interesting. Romina was very friendly, funny, and was happy to answer any of our questions. She knew a lot about the wines we tried and all were delicious. We ended up buying a bottle to take back to our apartment. I would 10/10 recommend to anyone visiting Verona.
