Porta dei Borsari, Verona

Categories: Ruins, Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web
Walk through a piece of ancient history at Porta dei Borsari, a Roman gate dating back to the first century CE. Admire the city's former main entrance and look for the inscription from the period of Emperor Gallienus' reign, when the gate was likely reconstructed. Once richly decorated, the arched gate now retains only its whitish facade and some detailing. Sandwiched between modern buildings, it creates an interesting contrast between new and old. • You find it yourself if you walk from the Plaza of the Erbe to the Castle, it is very unique because it is limestone and is part of the architecture. In Verona every step you take you get things to do, and in this case it is a monument with 2000 years to which is given little importance if you're not going with a guide.
