Built in the 5th century, the Church of Santo Stefano was frescoed by various masters of the 14th century. The Church is part of the Verona Minor that allows, thanks to the contribution of volunteers, to keep open five places of worship that would otherwise remain closed. An interesting piece is the Bishop's Chair consists of three interlocking pieces of stone. The 10th century crypt has four columns Egyptian resumed, it seems, from the temple dedicated to ISIS which stood nearby.

I was pleased to see many reviews of this church, just across the Ponte Pietra and not far from the Roman Theatre. The visit is worth and a heartfelt thank you to the volunteers that enable it to be opened. The Church dates back to the 5th century and has undergone many changes, as other, retaining some original features. Also of interest are the two pillars of the crypt from a pagan temple and the two beautiful frescos in red ochre. Looking good are esoteric symbols, including the less well known and perhaps most mysterious are the 6° of displacement of the façade. To see

  • Just across Ponte di Pietra, very close to Roman theatre: it's difficult to say whether this little church is more fascinating outside or inside
  • Some wonderful artworks in an important architectural monument.
  • A beautiful church. And honestly say, nice smortritili. Even had a cute. It was a pleasure to visit.

  • Wonderful frescoed Church, rebuilt after the earthquake of 1100. The crypt dates back to an ancient Egyptian Temple, then salvaged by the Romans and finally by the Christians.

  • Magnificent Church, from outside not seen in all its magnitude, impressive on the inside.

Where to stay in Verona

The historical center of Verona is packed with famous luxury hotels, which offer all the modern conveniences but also tend to be very expensive and require booking months in advance. If you're a spontaneous traveler visiting on a budget and staying in the central area is not one of your musts, consider checking into a small B&B or family-operated farm just outside the city. Verona's picturesque countryside offers less expensive but comfortable lodgings with good food and friendly hosts, all within a short drive from the bustling city center.
