Chiesa di Sant'Anastasia, Verona

(4.4/5 based on 1,600+ reviews on the web)
A monumental church in the center of Verona, Chiesa di Sant'Anastasia is notable for the sculptures both inside and out. The four columns over the high altar display the coat of arms of Castelbarco of Trento, a family who contributed to the building of the church. The funerary monument to Cortesia is one of the renowned sculptures. It portrays the mounted figure of Cortesia holding a commanding wand in front of the sarcophagus. The chapel houses a late Gothic fresco of St. George and the Princess, one of Pisanello's main works, as well as Wilhelm von Bibra's grave. Outside the church, a small, seated sculpture of a hunchback attracts attention because of its expressive face. • Beautiful church, the most beautiful of Verona. Ceiling, that the original floor of 1300 where you can see the initial shape of the Church.

  • The Church of Santa Anastasia, unfinished outside but rich inside, is one of the pearls of Gothic city of Verona, built by the Benedictines during two centuries and never completed. Although the façade shows some artworks, like the portal and two elegant and slender Lancet Windows, is inside that you remain speechless for the amount of frescoes and decorations for their quality and uniformity of colour shades of white, black and red. Good binoculars allows you to appreciate the precious fresco by Pisanello, rare example of the ability of this artist who has however left a work subtle and refined about fifteen meters high.

  • The exterior does not prepare the beauty that hides inside. The wonderful ceiling completely frescoed left me speechless. Beautiful and his visit is worth the price of admission among other symbolic of 2 euro and 50 cents. Don't kid around, no tourist goes into a church for the irrepressible need to gather in prayer but you get to visit a place rich in masterpieces of art and history with the same cultural attitude with which you enter to visit the arena. ... Verona is full of simple parishes not surcharge that meet their spiritual needs. If you do not enter into Saint Anastasia as a matter of principle we do not know what you get lost!
