Chiesa di Sant'Anastasia, Verona

4.6
A monumental church in the center of Verona, Chiesa di Sant'Anastasia is notable for the sculptures both inside and out. The four columns over the high altar display the coat of arms of Castelbarco of Trento, a family who contributed to the building of the church. The funerary monument to Cortesia is one of the renowned sculptures. It portrays the mounted figure of Cortesia holding a commanding wand in front of the sarcophagus. The chapel houses a late Gothic fresco of St. George and the Princess, one of Pisanello's main works, as well as Wilhelm von Bibra's grave. Outside the church, a small, seated sculpture of a hunchback attracts attention because of its expressive face. • Externally, the Cathedral looks very modest, but inside is simply astounding beauty. Many paintings, sculptures, mosaics and chapels. Most importantly, buying a ticket, you get a very handy audio guide, which has explanations and in Russian.

  • Thanks largely to the recent restoration particularly accurate. I find it not justifiable, though having to charge admission to get into a place of worship. Here does not request a free offer, as happens in any church of GB, but a true and own ticket. I refuse to pay to get into a church and we came back on Sunday mornings for mass. At least the one you do not pay (yet).

  • Beautiful and picturesque, there'd never been. A man became a deacon and the ceremony was done in this wonderful Church. From what I read to visit you have to pay, but I recommend doing this because it is really wonderful to take your breath away

  • Superb artworks in a beautiful architectural monument.
  • Absolutely fantastic. In other reviews, it's stated that it's pretty plain to look at from the outside which is true. But get ready to be wowed once you take a step inside. It's truly magnificent!
  • This church here looks quite a bit different than the several other ones in this city. Finished in 1400 in gothic style, it is quite an amazing sight. Coming from the front you will almost miss the big belltower. The front entrance is almost made in a simple architecture, typical for the gothic period. From far it almost appears (by the color) made from wood, but of course it's not. There are many lovely churches and cathedrals in town, but this needs to be on the to-do list, and if only because of the different style it has.
  • Stunning church. I didn’t expect the inside to be so beautiful since the outside is pretty simple.
  • Wonderful, stunning monument of medieval culture and architecture. You are going to find here a lot of beautiful frescoes of XIV-XV centuries including master piece of Pisanello. Visitors are allowed to take non commercial photo without flash light.
