  • Beautiful, a church must see. Little valued, the next steps without notice but if you see her on the course Borsari and go in, be amazed. Search it!

  • We stumbled on San Giovanni almost by accident when walking down Corso Porta Bursari and I am kicking myself that I didn't get any photos of the exterior elevations, especially the renaissance doorway...  more »
  • Dates back to the 12th century and is located in corso Borsari, right in the Centre of Verona. This little gem of Romanesque, which owes its name to the nearby Roman Forum, now piazza delle Erbe, was brought to light, in its original structure, in 1905. Beautiful small Renaissance Portal sculpted by Gerolamo Giolfino, with three statues, on top of San Giovanni Evangelista, flanking St Peter and St John the Baptist, and Nicola Giolfino fresco in niche, with Saint John the Greek island of Patmos. In front of the main altar, at the beginning of the century, excavations uncovered the alleged tomb of Giolfino. Interesting is the Foucault pendulum, placed to the right of the high altar at Easter 2005, created by the artist Giovanni Cavalleri. Finally, you can admire the smallest Nativity scene in the world, with very small plaster statues, sealed in a glass Cabinet, created by soldiers of World War I in 1917, when the Church took in and cared for the wounded. A beautiful church to be missed.
