  • We were able to visit just the wire, it lacked a little at closing and would be a shame to lose it! It is located within the confines of a pretty square in the city centre and is a building of particular urban and artistic interest. Of Romanesque origin, is entirely made of stone, consistent in internal and external forms, and rich in unique and spectacular points. The Church, built in the 11th century, with the oldest reclaimed materials, maintains three milestones from the ancient via Julia Augusta. The milestones are stone columns placed along roadsides, with the function of indicating the miles spent from the beginning of the road and the nearest towns (hence the name miliario; a mile extent 1480 meters). The three boundary stones preserved in the Church of San Michele are important evidence of the passage of the via Iulia Augusta in this area: two were used at the entrance as holy water fonts, the third is used as a column to hold the ceiling of the crypt. Very, very, very interesting. Not to be missed!

  • I am not even sure what this is. I would guess that it used to be a church. It is impressive with it's statues and paintings, etc. This is just a block from the cathedral and worth a stop.  more »
