Squero di San Trovaso, Venice

(110+ reviews on the web)
Historic Site
One of the few dry docks in Venice, Squero di San Trovaso attracts many with its traditional gondola repair service. Watch the gondolas drift by while enjoying a snack from one of the small tapas restaurants that line the square. You may even get a chance to see a traditional wooden gondola being built by hand. The boatyard offers travelers a trip on a bragozzo, a traditional fishing boat from the 18th or 19th century, down the lagoon of Venice. If you are traveling with a group of 25 or more, tours can be booked to visit inside the boatyard, where you'll witness exquisite craftsmanship. • It is a place that is used as a shipyard to build and repair gondolas. To view it must cross the river San Trovaso and reach Fondamenta Nani, from where you can admire a gondola, piles of stacked wood and little else. It is not worth visiting it, unless we are in the area. It is located next to the Church of San Trovaso, which has the particularity of having two same facades.

  • It is the most famous shipyard in the area. Its architecture is very curious, a mountain cabin. Its interior cannot be visited, but from the other side of the small channel which gives you can see perfectly.

  • Squero di San Trovaso is a shipyard where it was built and repaired an gondolas. It is curious to see it in operation, although today it is difficult. Also supports guided tours at certain times with reservation (see their website). It's funny to see it

  • With a starting price of €35,000 (around €45,000 when pimped out) for a new gondola, you can only appreciate the effort that justifies the price by visiting the factory (calling this a factory feels like a disservice - they are craftsmen).
  • If you ever wondered what a gondola shipyard looks like, here you have it! You can only see it from across the canal, but anyway it is a quaint place that deserves a very short visit.
  • simply fascinating to watch how this icon (the gondola) of venice is built.
  • Interesting gondola workshop.
