Santa Maria dei Miracoli, Venice

4.7
Known as the marble church, Santa Maria dei Miracoli sits by an attractive canal. Because of this early Renaissance church's beauty, weddings are often held here, with couples arriving by gondola on the canal. The interior is decorated with white, pink, and gray designs, all in marble. When you want to rest, head to the outside benches, or to the nearby secondhand bookstore. • During our visit to the beautiful city of Venice had heard this beautiful church choice by many couples for their wedding so we decided to visit it ... a little hidden. ... Very original church where the altar stands on top of a flight of steps.

  • This church was lost in the alleys of Venice and it is much easier that accidentally, than to search purposefully on the map. Although this applies to very many attractions of Venice. But still, some guidance can be specified. For example, descend from the Rialto Bridge to San Bartolomeo square (with a monument to Carlo Goldoni), and turning left, moving along a busy tourist trail to the Church of San Giovanni Grisostomo. Bypassing the Church turn right and drive towards Fondamenta Nuove. A few minutes walk to Santa Maria dei Miracoli-this precious little boxes, which sets an impossible task for any photographer, because it doesn't fit the frame entirely, despite its relatively small size. The Church belongs to the Association of Chorus and on the official website stated that she works with Monday to Saturday, but this is not the case. I was here Sunday, and the Church was not only open but also visit be free, though admission is 3.5 euros, as in other churches Chorus. So take this fact on the note, and enjoy your visit.

  • Like an apparition, all white marble, in Campo de Miracles. Beautiful, a sea of marble. Looking at her you almost fear that for all its weight of stone will sink into the lagoon. Visit, you'll remember. Built in memory of the greatest miracle took place in the city.

  • I always tell people to visit this church, which is my favourite in the whole of Venice. It's not quite a hidden gem, but easy to miss if you're only visiting the usual tourist sites - Piazza San Marco, Guggenheim, Accademia etc. It is perfection in marble and can be admired as much from the outside as inside, and the steps up to the chancel are glorious. The name Santa Maria dei Miracoli is derived from a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary which still stands at the main altar. The true miracle was the $4m restoration undertaken in the 1990s to save the church from ruin, and the ongoing cleaning work which keeps the polychrome marble gleaming for visitors today. The church is part of the Chorus scheme, and therefore there is a modest admission charge, but this also means it is open continuously from 10am to 5pm (Monday to Saturday). It is popular with Italian wedding parties, who often stop in the charming little campo surrounding the church to have their photos taken. It is certainly one of the most romantic places in the world, and I imagine a lot of people dream of getting married here.
  • Beautifully detailed with the marmer, it gives it a unique exterior. Happened to see a wedding here, really cool!
  • The Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli is an extremely finely decorated and elegant church located in pretty quiet and not very touristic area of Venice .
  • Not sure what the inside of the church looked like as I was busy outside taking photos. My wife went inside though and said that it was quite nice.
  • One of the most beautiful places in Venice

Where to stay in Venice

Save money and avoid tourist crowds by booking your accommodation outside the historical center of Venice. Central Venice is full of picturesque canals and narrow lanes, but it is also extremely noisy and hectic throughout the day and late into the night. You can explore the ancient city's charms at your own pace by staying at a comfortable B&B or small hotel located in the city's residential suburbs. To stay close to the finest beaches and restaurants, check into a hotel on the island of Lido, the city's famous seaside resort.
