  • Arrived during a tour in the lagoon we were greeted by a friar (they remained in 5) who in the cloister explained the history of the island. Tradition has it that St. Francis was a guest returning from a trip to the East in 1220. The church with the 3 chapels (including the one where the saint prayed) and the beautiful park that allows magnificent views of the surrounding lagoon are worth a visit.

  • I had long wanted to go to some Venetian islands, unknown to me and I took the opportunity with friends to venture into this exploration. Among those visited, I was particularly impressed by St. Francis of the desert, Oasis of Peace, a place of meditation for those who want to isolate themselves from the clamors and crowding of the cities; Mazzorbo, with its vineyards, where there is the "Venissa" estate from which you can get the Dorona wine, ancient indigenous grape and the famous crops of artichokes; From here through a bridge you reach Burano, a beautiful island with its surprisingly colourful houses, which according to the legend are so painted to be better recognizable by the fishermen who fall in their homes a bit ' Alticci. Torcello, however, seemed somewhat austere, perhaps because it was sparsely inhabited or more probable for the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta that towers imposing in the center of the island. So I crowned a long-cultivated dream, in which I plunged even from the dance of the boat that transported us in the lagoon. The tour then ended with a reconnaissance of Treviso, a city I already knew and that has still reserved some surprises. A beautiful journey comforted by beautiful sunny days and a comprehensive and passionate tourist guide.

  • Originally this place was a private house of a Venetian nobleman and, after the stay of St. Francis in 1220, was erected the chapel, later enlarged, and a first small convent, which the nobleman then donated to the Franciscans after the sanctification of 1228. With Napoleon and later under the Austrians, the church was used as a warehouse of goods and, on a loft built ad hoc, of ammunition. The convent was remodeled and enlarged in different eras, it has a beautiful internal cloister, visible only from the gate of the 1st cloister, a simple church with a marinara ceiling and 3 splendid side chapels, with a small chapel on the place where saint Francis stopped to pray. Very pleasant the back park, with a beautiful glimpse on the island of Burano. The friars are very courteous and hospitable, a free offer is welcome in the small shop, (only books, gadgets and pamphlets) adjacent to the entrance. I recommend it to those who want to spend an hour in serenity, meditation and peace

  • Islet in the vicinity of Burano, very nice, clean, tidy. There is a convent of the Benedictine Friars erected in the 13th century. There is an air of serenity and peace.
