  • Island off the tourist trail, inhabited by the friars minor who live in a convent that is said to have been founded by Saint Francis who arrived there on his return from the fifth crusade. After a brief period when the Austrians turned it into powder keg was returned to the Friars Minor.

  • More than one km off the coast of Burano, West of Sant'erasmo a lonely island. Not a tourist site, a place of silence, it can be retired, however we can visit including the convent, the cloister and the Church. Everything is in perfect condition. Vaporetto no boat to take you there, he must organize. We went there with a friend fisherman during a ride on the lagoon, a place that he knows well and that he allowed us to visit because ask to visit the convent at the entrance, otherwise there are the gardens where you can circulate. The island the most beautiful and the most quiet of the archipelago. Inhabited year-round by a dozen of Franciscans in the middle of cypress trees. The Interior of the building is very simple. A glass well lets see a piece of the original foundations, everything is peaceful. The island is green, immaculately maintained, the grounds are beautiful. Free tour but of course you can make a donation. St Francis of Assisi landed there around 1220 by returning to Syria, he built a cabin, planted a stick of Cypress brought from Albania who immediately took root and became a tree whose remains are religiously preserved and shown. It was occupied from the XIII by Franciscans, forced to abandon it because of a malaria epidemic which of course disappeared but them mosquitoes are still there.

  • The visit is possible only in the afternoon as the Shuttle takes at 14:30 in Burano. The Friar made the visit in Italian but we have explanations written in french. The mention of St. Francis is permanent. The Park is well maintained is the perfect serenity. Exceptional views on the sunset over the lagoon. We recommend this discovery off the beaten path

  • Friendly island, visited with the Scouts and despite our lack of booking we were gladly accepted. Very well kept and manicured gardens.

  • The island is so called because it was inhabited by Saint Francis who began a small community. Later it was abandoned for its unsanitary environmental conditions became a powder magazine for the Austrians, and passed into the hands of the Diocese of Venice, saw the return of the friars. You can only visit with organized tours or by being accompanied by a boatman, upon contact with the brothers who serve as guides. Particular and striking, totally out of disposable tourism.
