Punta della Dogana, Venice

4.0
#8 of 52 in Museums in Venice
Housed in Venice's old customs building, Punta della Dogana is now a contemporary art museum. The name refers to the triangular area of the city where the Grand Canal meets the Guidecca canal, but it has now become synonymous with the building and its art exhibits. Previously empty for decades, the building was restored in 2009 by French art collector François Pinault, whose €20 million renovation showcases the building's "industrial and minimalist soul." Stand at the tip of the triangle, enjoying views of the vast sea ahead and the canals behind, before heading into the building for a look at some of Venice's finest contemporary art. • Disappointing. Grand guignol of Damien Hirst! Unpacking of works at the Palazzo Grassi and the Punta Della Dogana by this artist who tries to demystify a mystification without great artistic interest, but probably with a large financial interest.

  • The place is very nice, with a beautiful view. But we are going for the exhibition of Damien Hirst is very simply beautiful, with a sense of the breathtaking detailed, not to be missed.

  • Expensive, but nice Damien Hirst exhibition despite the absence of some parts of this work sprinkled elsewhere in the world? Very nice view from the belvedere. But the price...

  • Damien Hurst's exhibit was one of the best I have ever seen. Highlight of my trip to Venice. The building is amazing as well.
  • I went to see the Damien Hirst exhibition, which is simply amazing. The space itself is a work of art, with spacious showrooms, simple, clean and rustic-style inside decorations. The views are also great. This place and the exhibition are the highlight of my recent trip to Venice.
  • An awe inspiring venue for art and cultural experience at the very tip of things
  • Beautiful location, huge space. Nice exhibitions !
  • Amazing Exhibition by Damien Hurst. A must see.

Where to stay in Venice

Save money and avoid tourist crowds by booking your accommodation outside the historical center of Venice. Central Venice is full of picturesque canals and narrow lanes, but it is also extremely noisy and hectic throughout the day and late into the night. You can explore the ancient city's charms at your own pace by staying at a comfortable B&B or small hotel located in the city's residential suburbs. To stay close to the finest beaches and restaurants, check into a hotel on the island of Lido, the city's famous seaside resort.
