Ponte dell'Accademia, Venice

4.5
#30 of 434 in Things to do in Venice
Cross the Grand Canal on Ponte dell'Accademia, one of four bridges to cross the span of water on the southern end. The crossing connects the sestieres, or city subdivisions, of Dorsoduro and San Marco. When you go, look for the “lovers’ locks,” or the padlocks engraved with couples’ names and locked onto the railings. This bridge is certainly a hidden gem and well worth a visit. It is so picturesque and a perfect photo opportunity. It can get very crowded though just like all the other main tourist attractions in V...  more »

Make sure you have enough space on your memory card in your camera. This is a typical picturesque place. If you imagine a classic view of Venice it must have been taken on this bridge! Surprisingly it...  more »

  • Wood and metal bridge with lots of character - more so than the modern but sterile constituzione bridge. Great spot for that step-into-a-venetian postcard-can't go wrong picture.
  • Nice central location in Venice. Good place to catch the Vaporetto. Fun people watching.
  • Absolute must for anyone interested in the Renaissance and Michaelangelo
  • This is one of four bridges over Canal Grande. It is only a temporary bridge, but looks really nice though. Hopefully, the city will decide on building a bridge that fits more into Venice. You can take a really good pictures from up there, however it is crowded usually. This is also the old water entrance into the city.
  • Historically new made in the 1930's as a temporary structure. Nobody set an expiration date I suppose, and it's still here today.

Where to stay in Venice

Save money and avoid tourist crowds by booking your accommodation outside the historical center of Venice. Central Venice is full of picturesque canals and narrow lanes, but it is also extremely noisy and hectic throughout the day and late into the night. You can explore the ancient city's charms at your own pace by staying at a comfortable B&B or small hotel located in the city's residential suburbs. To stay close to the finest beaches and restaurants, check into a hotel on the island of Lido, the city's famous seaside resort.
