  • This “palace” is in actuality the prison, which is accessed via the Ponte dei Sospiri. It is worth visiting to see the cells of the condemned and the conditions in which they were incarcerated.  more »
  • We took a bus to the main island of Venice, took a water bus and arrived at the dock near St. Mark's Square, and we were walking along the Squiavoni river to the Ducare Palace, our first destination. I found a bridge of sighs on a narrow canal. The Bridge of Sighs is a bridge between the Ducal Palace and the Prison. Therefore, the building located on the opposite bank across the narrow canal of the Ducal Palace is a prison. The building where the prison is located was this Palazzo delle Prigioni. This building is lined with arched bridges. Even prisons are nice!

  • The access to the prison is given by the Palazzo Ducale through the bridge of Sighs. Frosty place due to stone coatings and oppressive ambience. Musical events happen in the palace's noble halls. (in April 2018)

  • Dark and damp prison. Nice little piece of history. Not much too see but you can walk around and get a feel for what it must have been like to be a prisoner down here. You enter by crossing the Bridge of Sighs.
  • There is not much exebited here. But for me just walking through the maze of prison is impressive. The heavy wooden doors that could close not only the cells but also coridors are scary. So is the bridge of sights. But a little more information wpuld be good.
  • Did not actually visit the place. I was near in San Marco Square. Wish our tour guide would've taken us by here for a history lesson.
  • visited the place. Standing on the bridge of sighs and looking at Doge Palace and the Prison, makes one what was the type of justice that was meted out to the prisoners.
  • Located close to San Marco Square it is must place to visit and take photos at views of the outside of the Bridge of Sighs and also the beginning of the Grand Canal with its gondolas
