With fruit, fish, and vegetables featured prominently, you'd be challenged to find a better market to wander through in Venice. Was accompanied by a guide on a visit to the market. In addition to learning about the history of the market and the general area, she skillfully navigated me around the area showing me the highlights...  more »

Mind giving a bad judgment to an overall nice, quaint and convenient. All sellers Italians were very nice, but the behavior of a foreign seller, the first in front of the square of Saint James, that corner, towards my wife, significantly lowers the average. My wife watched the exhibits; There were two other women. The seller has before you reprimand badly in a foreign language (and they certainly weren't compliments), then invited them to hurry. When my wife pointed out to him that having one hand occupied could not take a pair of earrings that had chosen she was told: "you free your other hand, you take them alone so you hurry". The question of my wife if she was disturbing the seller has yelled at her and cacciandola. A case of gynophobia or something worse? Sin and ... long live Italy!

  • New to me despite having visited Venice many times. Go if you can, it's easy since it's only 100 yards beyond Rialto Bridge! Go in the morning... Loads of vegetables, fruit, fish. Colorful and energetic! Tiny church next door is also worth stopping in.... Beautiful altar and old musical instruments
  • I love this place. I am a big fan of markets especially ones where you find restaurants shopping too. Now I realize you are not buying right from the fisherman but the fish is as fresh as you can! Most still living or very recently pulled from the water.
  • Nice market. Offers only produce. If you want to buy some fruit for snacks, recommend going here. Prices seem average.
  • Instead of eating out all the time, head to the market nice and early, fresh fruits, fish etc, or if you fancy just a look around it is well worth it.
  • The large primary marketplace in Venice, which offers a greater selection of fruits at a better price than the "resellers" in the more touristic spots. Also has a fresh fish market that sells out and closes quickly in the day (finished by 1pm).

Where to stay in Venice

Save money and avoid tourist crowds by booking your accommodation outside the historical center of Venice. Central Venice is full of picturesque canals and narrow lanes, but it is also extremely noisy and hectic throughout the day and late into the night. You can explore the ancient city's charms at your own pace by staying at a comfortable B&B or small hotel located in the city's residential suburbs. To stay close to the finest beaches and restaurants, check into a hotel on the island of Lido, the city's famous seaside resort.
