Mercati di Rialto stands in the commercial center of the city, with views of the bridge of the same name as well as the Grand Canal. With fruit, fish, and vegetables featured prominently, you'd be challenged to find a better market to wander through in Venice. You can go here before any other attraction, as this opens before anything else in the city. Visitors with kitchen access may want to make daily visits. Vendors also sell leatherwork, jewelry, and other tourist trinkets. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Venice holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Mercati di Rialto and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • How can you not visit this market! Brought it's fresh (I hope) shell seafood and cooked it at our apartment!
  • Smell, taste in a unique atmosphere! It's simply worth seeing and interesting! I can only recommend it!

  • Just watching the scale is not large, but local fresh perishable foods and Italy's culinary spice, and very fun. Ask scallop shells to buy fish, souvenirs, but the good, selling souvenirs.

  • Lively market. Lots of fruit venders that stay open long hours and then lots of fish venders.
  • Bought a bunch of huge oriental lilies and carried it all the way back to my room near San Mark's Piazza..smiling all the ways..the smell was heavenly in my room for the whole week I was there..
  • I bought my huge 1.3 kg Crabb there for 10 euro :) and it was alive. such a pleasant experience, a must go place in venice. Fresh vegetables, fresh fish and other seafood.
  • Just a great place to go and see..When we went the amount of flies and bugs landing on and burrowing in the meat and fish would make me not want to purchase any meats but the fruits were a deal!
  • The market closest to either end of the Rialto market is filled with stalls selling various trinkets and items special to Venice (beautiful Murano gold flecked glass blown candies!) and then there is the famous food market selling incredibly fresh looking seafood and fruit. This market place is not just filled with tourists, but also locals going about their daily shopping needs and the atmosphere is so lively. Be aware of your belongings is a must though- with so many jostling you on either side the moment you enter the market, it's easy for someone to just slip their hand into an open handbag and take things when you're otherwise preoccupied.
