Dorsoduro, Venice

4.9
#2 of 8 in Neighborhoods in Venice
Neighborhood Landmark
Explore the quieter side of the city in Dorsoduro, where a slice of "authentic Venice" can still be found. Cross the lovely Accademia Bridge from St. Mark’s Square and get lost in the comparatively peaceful streets of a neighborhood historically inhabited by artists and students. Surrounded by graffiti-filled streets, local restaurants, and Venetians going about their business, visit some art galleries, such as the Galleria dell’Accademia and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, housed within beautiful palace architecture. • We were staying in a Hotel in via Rio Terà Foscarini and felt the smell of authentic Venice ... something magical! Dorsoduro remains, for us, the reference. To the North you could go towards Academy for a trip by boat on the Canal and the Zattere to Giudecca to southwards or else ... then a strategic point and nearby, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection Museum of modern art. • In this area you can relax and unwind away from the boredom of other areas of Venice. There are moments in which you come across more Italians than tourists. There are no many shops and expensive restaurants, and yet you still have the intrinsic beauty of the tourist city.

Where to stay in Venice

Save money and avoid tourist crowds by booking your accommodation outside the historical center of Venice. Central Venice is full of picturesque canals and narrow lanes, but it is also extremely noisy and hectic throughout the day and late into the night. You can explore the ancient city's charms at your own pace by staying at a comfortable B&B or small hotel located in the city's residential suburbs. To stay close to the finest beaches and restaurants, check into a hotel on the island of Lido, the city's famous seaside resort.
