  • San Salvador, or Jesus the Holy Saviour of the Human Gender, is one of the largest Churches in Venice and the Venetian Patriarchate, and originally one of the oldest. The large Baroque facade is worthy of scenery for the decidedly vast interior, in the Lombard Renaissance style, of this grandiose Church today Parish. San Salvador's past in Venice is far more glorious than the present. It was, in fact, the Cathedral of the Abbey of the SS. Salvatore of Venice, institute of the Order of The Regular Canons of St. Augustine. Its historical "status" of The Abbey Cathedral explains the size of the Holy Building, cathedral size, in fact, and the richness of decorations that embellish it. The plan is basilicary, with three aisles supported by wide arches set on lean pillars, arches alternating with the three transects that cross from one side to the other the base rectangle of the former canonical cathedral. A dome - for a total of three - rises over the gap between the central aisle and each of the three non-adjective transects. The Baroque bell tower, which rises not much above the roof of the Church, is square, with bell cell open on the 4 tall from matching monophores, is imposing but of poor visibility, given the location of the former Abbey Cathedral of San Salvador, inserted among the surrounding buildings and the vast complex, now reduced to profane use, of the Augustinian Regular Canon. Said Campanile, however, is not too dissimilar to others, cohesive, who, even smaller "of size", rise dipresso their Churches in Venice. For those who are in Venice, a visit to San Salvador is absolutely a must: you will certainly be fascinated and charmed.

  • The Renaissance style distinguishes the Church of San Salvador in Venice, one of the oldest. On the left side of the façade appears the cannonball fired by the Austrian troops during the siege of 1849, inside the beautiful polychrome marble floor, the main altar and the tomb of the Doge Francesco Venier.

  • It is a church that stands on a small square along an alley near the Rialto Bridge, so many people are bigotry to overlook it, but I want you to stop by by all means because there is a wonderful picture of Titian. At the main altar is the "Transfiguration of Christ", and in the right nave is his later work "Annunciation". The color and movement of Titian, famous for the paintings of the Frari church, was a perfection that I did not think was the work of his later years.

  • One of those iconic places. Often closed, so be sure to check the opening times!
  • Beautiful church where I lit a candle for my dad
  • Very fine church, spot the Titian inside, and nice organ too.
  • Beautiful! This church is well maintained and is very beautiful. The architecture is interesting and there are lots of details. The colors are harmonized with the decoration; there are parts in red that give to the church a great aspect. It's wonderful! I recommend the visitation of this church.
  • Very nice and historic
