  • In the 16th century Venice experienced a disastrous plague that killed 50,000 people including the Artist known as Titan. The Doge promise God to build a great church if the plague would end. So came ...  more »
  • Built on the Giudecca Island, as a result of a vow made by the doge Alvise MOCENIGO to erect a church dedicated to the Redeemer if the city was finally freed from the plague, this building is considered to be the masterpiece of PALLADIO. Presenting a magnificent façade to the Grand portal, it is topped with a massive dome enclosed between 2 towers to arrow. Inside, illuminated large thermal windows, Latin cross plan, with 3 chapels on each side, is a beauty and incredible purity. In addition, it contains magnificent altarpieces: "Baptism of Christ" of the VERONESE school, "Flagellation of Christ" of TINTORETTO, "Resurrection of Christ" of Francesco BASSANO, etc. The sacristy contains, among other remarkable works, the famous "Madonna del latte" Pasqualino Veneto. But some visitors say that the Church alone is not worth €3 entrance shocks me deeply. All the churches of Venice deserve to pay at least €3 to visit because they are all true masterpieces and their restoration and maintenance cost is colossal! In addition, the map CHORUS PASS costing €10! allows to visit 17! Some tourists spend more money for unnecessary purchases...

  • Pay the extra fee for access to the tower.. awesome view:)
  • So lovely to have seen the Redentore day celebration. memorable indeed.
  • Beautifull and magnificent views
  • Really beautiful and impressive cathedral
  • Good food. I ate suppa (...) vegetables (Ministrone), the others at Pizza. Formaggio, Magaritha and a Pizza with cooked ham and champignons. The champignos come from the can or glas = minus 1 Star. I dont understand this. Champignos must be fresh on Pizza. And this happens in a good Restaurant in Italy. If this happens at a Döner-Pizzaria in Germany, I say ok. But even in a German Italien Restaurant this is a no go. Why??? Take Fresh Champignos!

Where to stay in Venice

Save money and avoid tourist crowds by booking your accommodation outside the historical center of Venice. Central Venice is full of picturesque canals and narrow lanes, but it is also extremely noisy and hectic throughout the day and late into the night. You can explore the ancient city's charms at your own pace by staying at a comfortable B&B or small hotel located in the city's residential suburbs. To stay close to the finest beaches and restaurants, check into a hotel on the island of Lido, the city's famous seaside resort.
