Ca' d'Oro, Venice

3.9
#9 of 52 in Museums in Venice
Admire the historical grandeur of Venice combined with an impressive collection of artwork at Ca' d'Oro. The magnificent Gothic palace was built in the 15th century as home to the influential Contarini family. It remained in private hands until the early 20th century, when its last owner, an avid art collector named Giorgio Franchetti, transferred it to the Italian state. A great architectural monument, the palace still houses Franchetti's collection, which includes the works of artists such as Titian, Jan van Eyck, and Anthony van Dyck. You'll find guided tours of the palace in different languages both for groups and individual visitors, but you'll want to book them in advance. Very well located. From the airport, take a taxi boat (it's expensive) but he, a dock to the hotel. Room small but clean and functional. WiFi acceptable. Breakfast pretty ordinary, far from what we are used to see. The staff speaks a little french and friendly. Located near the Ca d'Oro vaporetto dock. We got lost one night and not a local person could help us. It was two minutes from the hotel. Therefore, GPS, very convenient. Venice is very small, very narrow streets, unreadable maps. The hotel is in a small street off, lovely! Our view overlooked a canal. Comfortable beds, air-conditioned air ok.

The facade is wonderful, and if the main door is a beauty. Once inside is worth the two courtyards, up exhibitions of painting that my I was particularly heavy. There was a sign of tapestries Turks and a documentary about how he made them and sent to Venice at its time of greatest splendour. The views of the canal were wonderful. Now that the input without 15 euros, rating their os is worth...

Where to stay in Venice

Save money and avoid tourist crowds by booking your accommodation outside the historical center of Venice. Central Venice is full of picturesque canals and narrow lanes, but it is also extremely noisy and hectic throughout the day and late into the night. You can explore the ancient city's charms at your own pace by staying at a comfortable B&B or small hotel located in the city's residential suburbs. To stay close to the finest beaches and restaurants, check into a hotel on the island of Lido, the city's famous seaside resort.
