  • The basilica of San Zanipolo is full of wonderful architecture and artwork. But I don't want to replace with a tour guide. I want to make known to those who visit a small Monument and a small URN that shaped the history of Italy and Venice. The monument over the marble urn depicts Marcantonio Bragadin Governor of Cyprus and the URN contains the "vestiges" of her skin Looks just a detail but I will add that the monuments sometimes you can look not only for their outer beauty, but especially for the history that accompanies "them" Look that urn commemorates the year 1570. Cyprus was under siege by the Turks and Christians led by Governor Bragadin were holed up in Famagusta!! After many months of suffering now exhausted Bragadin decided to deal with the vizier who promise saves lives to him and to the citizens if they had delivered the city this was not why the vizier just Bragadin you gave him subjected to unimaginable torture until he didn't skin him alive. The skin of the valiant Governor ended in Constantinople, but after some years two mighty Venetian merchants stole and was taken to the Home where the remains were placed in the URN that today we see Here I have summarized a true story and moving but only to counsel who will stop for a moment in the Basilica in front of that urn and then bust and for once feel the fate of "so much" our compatriot who honored the name of Italy

  • The Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo is one of the largest churches of Venice and in particular known, it houses numerous tombs of Doge. We found very interesting the visit and can recommend it absolutely. Admission is 3 euros, where the Church not in the chorus circuit is included.

  • This is the resting place of more than two dozen Doges, something which should give you an idea of how important a place it was to Venetians, and it shows--it dwarfs any other building in the city. Th...  more »

  • Very majestic and impressive basilica built in a venetian Gothic style!
  • An amazing church! I arrived at night while they held a celebration, so I had to leave. The security guy allowed me to take a picture inside the Basilica, but just for personal, so I'd better not share it here :P. I probably will visit it again.
  • Super window 4 hundred years before it's to invention the 3D
  • Simply breathtaking.
