The archivio di stato di Venezia is housed in the old convent of the friars, of which there are two beautiful cloisters: particularly striking one of the Trinity with its arches and the presence of several tombstones. The store is frequented daily by scholars from around the world because the documents that preserves are critical to reconstruct the history of the Republic of Venice and of all countries with which, over the centuries, Venice has maintained diplomatic, economic and cultural relations.

We had to visit the happiness within the framework of a university exchange the old archive and other premises with a guide. I found particularly the old hand-painted books from past eras, which old library were presented to us on a big old table of the centuries, very exciting. Something like this bekomment it otherwise unlikely to face. The endless shelves with the countless old books of verströmtem a special charm and I felt almost in one set back another time. A successful change in Venice. Please request, whether a free guided tour is possible. In this case it's worth.

one of the largest archives in the world has been enriched recently by other spaces on the giudecca and mestre ... kilometres of shelves ... daunting task is to get to the document which concerns since you have to get into very specific archives ... many just inaccessible for security reasons in handling and left only for scholars with references ... the entire history of the Serenissima is preserved in documents well surveyed but still to make accessible via computer ... you can ask a guided tour but it takes time to get it ... hopefully at least the architectural part of the old convent of the friars is also complementary to the Church visit cme ...

Where to stay in Venice

Save money and avoid tourist crowds by booking your accommodation outside the historical center of Venice. Central Venice is full of picturesque canals and narrow lanes, but it is also extremely noisy and hectic throughout the day and late into the night. You can explore the ancient city's charms at your own pace by staying at a comfortable B&B or small hotel located in the city's residential suburbs. To stay close to the finest beaches and restaurants, check into a hotel on the island of Lido, the city's famous seaside resort.
