La Venaria Reale, Venaria Reale
Categories: Architectural Buildings, Castles, Tourist Spots
Explore La Venaria Reale, a 17th-century palace built for Charles Emmanuel II as a base for his hunting expeditions. History had taken its toll here; the structure only opened to the public in 2007 after one of the European Union's largest cultural restoration projects. Wander through the palace's permanent exhibit, Theater of History and Magnificence, which takes you through some of the most impressive rooms. Begin in the 17th-century Hall of Diana, continue through to the Great Gallery, and then move on to the Church of St. Hubert. The accompanying soundtrack by Brian Eno and the multimedia installations on court life make this an informative and atmospheric walk. Stretch your legs in the palace's 50 hectares (123.5 acres) of gardens. You'll find cafes, restaurants and a bookshop on site. Majestic complex was reopened to the public for a few years after a careful restoration and recovery. The most significant of these are without a doubt the great gallery and the chapel of Saint Hubert, by Filippo Juvarra. Very relaxing walk through the beautiful Italian gardens. Notably the modern "fluid sculpture garden" by Giuseppe Penone.show original

Unfortunately, what was the original splendor have recovered only the ceilings with beautiful stuccoes and frescoes while the walls and floors are sadly bare. The décor of any room, from various collections, has a few pieces of fine workmanship. Interesting guided tour. Great garden, I imagine that in the spring will be even better. Disappointing the Palace stable: the Bucintoro and two simple carriages are not worth the ticket price.show original
Wonderful! It was such an amazing and lovely experience. I enjoyed the half of the exhibits, it was a perfect timing when we reached the garden with the arrival of the dusk, after that there was nothing much interesting anymore (at least for me) though there were still a lot to see. All in all I enjoyed it and I would totally come back. It's enormous, there's so much to see!
