  • Bronze statue of Saint Peter sitting on a throne with his right hand to bless and left to the chest that locks the keys of the Kingdom of God. Uncertain is the attribution of the artist who made it, but it seems it's a 13th-century work by Arnolfo di Cambio. Many years ago I remember having touched as his right foot which was really shiny and consumed by this custom of the faithful; Today, the right foot is protected by a metal cuff that doesn't wear, however to me the probation officer has impedìto to tap your foot.

  • Brought me to tears. Just so moving, even if you are not religious. Small lineup of people, but worth the wait.  more »

  • Absolutely wonderful and breathtaking. A must see for anyone passionate about travelling or for anyone that happens to visit Rome. If you want to visit, it does not cost anything. The basilica itself is absolutely amazing. Also, you can visit the crypts for 5€ (didn't go there) or climb in the dome (on top of the basilica), also for 6€ (or 8€ if you want to take the elevator). The view up there is extraordinary, you can see all of Rome and try to guess the monuments. The climbing up can be difficult, but you can take the elevator for about half of the road. There are like 520 steps in total. Also, try to get there as early as possible, because the waiting lines are enormous. I waited about 1h 40min. Totally worth it, though.
  • Impressive building. I would highly recommend to go up on the basilicas dome. The stairs are quite adventurous at some points, but it is really worth the view. Also the view from the balcony inside the dome is great, but be sure you have no fear of heights.
  • Quite simply the best thing i have seen, the basilica is stunning. Go late in the day to try and avoid the queues. We went at 3pm in October after seeing the museums and yes we had to queue to get through security but when we did get in there were not crowds of people inside. Absolutely unmissable if you are in Rome.
  • Absolutely fantastic. The architecture is stunning to see. Well worth the trip to Rome just to visit here. Just make sure that you pre book your tickets to avoid the massive queues. The climb up to the dome is not for the faint hearted. There are warnings for it, but I wouldn't recommend trying if you have any trouble at all walking or with fitness in general.
  • Impressive...... So large and detailed. Do the tour or wait hours in every line. The tour guide from Viaggi Tours was absolutely amazing. A family company with experience in Vatican tours since the mid 1700s. Thanks you.
