Outdoor Activity
The Calà del Sasso is a path leading down from the village of Sasso di Asiago towards the town of Valstagna in Italy. It has 4444 steps, is 7km long, and is the longest staircase in Italy as well as the world's longest staircase open to the public. The highest and lowest points on the path differ by 744 m. Next to the staircase runs a gully. Both gully and steps are paved in limestone. The gully was used to transport timber from Sasso downhill. Once in Valstagna, Calà del sasso ends near the river Brenta, where the logs were floated to Venice where they were used in the Arsenale for the construction of boats.

  • This is a characteristic path, allowing you to stay completely immersed in nature. The path itself is not too high to trouble who is trained, although in some places the slope is quite high (it goes from 250 m to approximately 1000 m 3, the gallium Valstagna 5 km) and on the downhill, the steps are felt. Between round trip, without pausing it takes about 2-3 h, sustained pitch. Only recommendation: pay attention to the steps, which can be slippery due to moisture, but otherwise there are no major risks. Better then to have proper footwear to excursions.

  • Challenging course, we make every year and since we start already on the plateau we do first downhill and then uphill, requires minimal physical form (depends also on the pace that we want to keep) and having regard to the risk of slipping (wet rocks and Moss in the most shaded) are from chopsticks! If you are in the area to keep an eye out, you won't regret it!

  • We promised ourselves to see this site and follow the steps at least once and we succeeded. On the NET there are several guides that tell you how to find it and where to park your car. We covered starting from bottom to top and then return, all in about 4 hours with a break in the middle. The path is not difficult but is insidious where was slipped the mountain, the area was settled but the kerbs alas have not been rebuilt, just to make you realize that the work was created by men of old and especially given the lack of modern machinery. I can say except this little piece of route, the remainder is absolutely wonderful! You walk for about an hour and a half immersed in nature absolute with the only company of the wind in the leaves and animals. The Sun practically doesn't filter ever in dense vegetation and if you deal with the right spirit is a must. Definitely take a lot of good will but you are rewarded with infinite peace! I would recommend to associations dealing with the maintenance of fix the Park at the end of the staircase, it's a shame to see him left to itself and it is a pity it is not highlighted as it should!
