  • Awesome place! The Abbey and the Park are worth a visit! We were lucky enough to visit the Abbey with the snow, and it was a visit even more magical!

  • After kilometers of road which goes into the secular forest, dense as today can only appear in the movies in costume, as if by magic unfolds the ancient Abbey, place of silence, meditation and prayer. For this is good to inquire in advance of visiting hours, to avoid interfering with the rhythms of the monastic life of the few who live here.

  • Placed in the middle of the forest of Vallombrosa by hundreds of years the Abbey fascinates by its grandeur and Majesty. In a lovely cross roads until you arrive in front of. Wonderful to visit also the Interior for its works by art collected over the centuries. The friars produce various things that sell in the shop including a delicious liqueur. Only pity is that we will never exploit as much as they deserve these places, even tourists instead of activating in great amounts decrease each year. In any case it is worth seeing.

  • The Abbey of Vallombrosa, fronted by a large pond built in 1790, is 958 m a.s.l.: is surrounded by walls interrupted by a great bastion, a tower and a 15th-century bell tower of the 13th century. Here is the Congregation of the Vallombrosian monks founded by Giovanni Gualberto, that is an offshoot of the Benedictine order and which was founded in the 11th century. on the initiative of Saint Giovanni Gualberto, patron not only of Vallombrosa, but also around the State Forestry Corps. The Abbey has a façade dating back to the 18th century: the Church has a Latin cross, typical of the vallombrosian order structures, with the dome supported by eight ionic columns, is predominantly Baroque although still retains the perimeter walls of the building 13th century Romanesque.

  • Beautiful place, steeped in history and spirituality. To visit, together at the Arboretum: a unique route where you can appreciate, led by helpful and knowledgeable staff, the uniqueness of the flora of the area, as well as the work of the historical Italian Forestry Corps Weapon, now no longer exists.

  • The Congregation of vallombrosa has risen thanks to San Giovanni Gualberto, born of an illustrious Florentine family, which in 1036 withdrew with few followers in a place called Vertine. St. John Galberto promoted the reform of the clergy, convinced that life and the return to a Evangelical poverty would lead to the renewal of the Church. After a first wooden oratory, the vallombrosan community came to a stone church, replaced by a larger building in the years 1224-30, while the monastery took the body. After a period of great works in the 15th century, to whom we owe the great cloister, sacristy, the Tower, the refectory and kitchen, is in the Church becomes homogeneous 600? and lavish that retains. The Interior has a Latin cross plan, has a Baroque connotation given to rich Fresco decoration of the vaults and a series of altars with paintings. Other areas of interest include the Renaissance vestry that has exposed a large shovel of glazed terracotta by Andrea Della Robbia's workshop, the refectory with a series of paintings and the kitchen with a stone fireplace in the second half of the 700. With the Napoleonic suppression of convents and the shore of the property, there has been a considerable impoverishment of the rich artistic heritage accumulated over the centuries. Only in 1949 u vallombrosa are back in the monastery. On 12 July is the anniversary of the death of the Saint and feast.

  • Lovely! The first time I was there, the monks were celebrating the rite of Vespers Sung. To visit! I also recommend the shop/herbalist inside the Abbey.
