  • Got a defensive fortress located few kilometers Sunday to this before Varzi, left from the lodigiano went across the rolling hills pavesi spectacular vineyards characterized by beautiful villages and, after about one hour drive we arrive in val di Nizza and from there climb decisively wooded slopes leading to the castle of Oramala sticking in a raised position to dominate the below val di Staffora.La rock can be visited at the cost of 6 euros per person , the path is conducted by guides prepared and funny (in our case) that give each historical and architectural explanation on the structure. We have learned that this was built during the middle ages by the feudatory family Malaspina to oversee the salt road, this very valuable product was brought from Liguria to Pavia and Milan with the obligation of a customs duty payable in town of Varzi. A Legion of resiedeva soldiers in the fortress and surrounding village, commanding officer of the Malaspina to ward off external attacks. Unconfirmed sources also speak of a possible stay in this place of the great Dante Alighieri connoisseur of Malaspina Lords who were fellow countrymen of the poet being originals of Carrara. Today the fortress looks altered by at least 4 towers, collapsed in the long period of neglect and unrelenting decline after the dismessione by the original owners took place around 1,700. The restoration and consolidation works are due to the current owner which from the middle of the years 80 intervened by securing the great tower which today can be visited via the various floors until terracing at the top from which on bright days you can enjoy a wonderful panorama. In the residential area called there are 2 rectangular rooms instead placed on top of each other while in the subterranean area the narrow rooms where in prisons. Still visible well fishing water a few metres in depth and a subterranean tunnel that branches off towards Varzi as hasty and secret escape route. You love history, you like to savor the flavor while walking between stones and places that were witness, the castle of Oramala will evoke your the right emotions

  • After a good experience at the medieval festival of Varzi, very well organized, I decide to go and visit the Hermitage of Saint Albert of Butrio: a beautiful "climbing" drive on a scenic but a little bumpy. Then behold, a castle in this middle of nowhere surrounded by greenery: I didn't know existed but I stop seeing cars parked (attended). Sunday afternoon, 17 o'clock and on the gate I see that there are guided right at that moment: everything looks intentional. The guide is prepared and friendly and now says that the castle is not a masterpiece, deteriorated and rearranged over time ... but still its history, it also works of fantasy. In the rooms furnishings and objects from different periods, something of value, placed to "fill" the salt. The view from the top of the Tower pays off, good views. Satisfied with the visit I went to the Hermitage. I say that is, not the money down the drain ... recommend the two stages.

  • Worth a visit the castle of Oramala, dating from the second half of the 11th century and belonged to the Malaspina family. The furniture is not the original, but the search result of "medievalness" (who apparently mediated through nineteenth-century romanticism) is nevertheless appreciable. Honorable mention for the volunteers of the cultural association Spino Fiorito will drive with extreme competence, courtesy and friendliness. Interesting fact: it is said that on Christmas Eve here celebrate a feast of Ghouls in honor of Frederick Barbarossa and of Obizzo Malaspina.

  • Quoting Fantozzi "crazy crap!". a castle converted into a summer residence and now returned the castle to get money. The premises are not the originals, there is all sorts of furniture and furnishings that have nothing to do whatsoever with the history of the castle with the contemporary life in the castle itself. All helter-skelter, haphazardly. during the visit, we did not even have seen the prisons because there were no musicians to change for the evening show. Definitely avoid! A real shame ...
