Palazzo Ducale di Urbino, Urbino

4.6
#1 of 166 in Museums in Marche
Palazzo Ducale di Urbino reflects Federico's dedication to using pagan imagery to decorate the medieval walls. A small study that faces away from the city and toward the duke's rural lands is the central element. The latticework, paintings, and benches here are stellar examples of Italian inlay. The shelves are filled with musical scores, books, and scientific instruments that reflect the duke's broad interests. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this Renaissance structure built into the side of a hill. • Very nice to visit, especially the dungeons and torricini which offers a beautiful view over the city. The two floors are mainly paintings and furniture, interesting the alcove.

  • Lie in front of the flagellation by Piero della Francesca alone is worth the visit to this building that conceals many other artworks of the Renaissance exhibited in beautiful surroundings. Only the studiolo apotheosis of Renaissance style. Lovely view from the towers, one of which is open every Saturday. In Italy there is not much to see, the Doge's Palace is certainly one of these

  • It's a fantastic building in a incredibly important historic city. The construction of Urbino is a great tale to know. The palace has many expositions of many paintings and historical rooms, and constantly it also includes in a separate parte those of art students of the city. If you are visiting Urbino you must check it out.
  • Wonderful architectural setting with an outstanding collection and exhibition of important artworks. The exhibition is well organized and well documented which leaves the visitor with a better understanding of the social and cultural importance of Urbino during the Renaissance.
  • An outsized but beautiful palace for the town of Urbino. The best view we found was from Piazza Mercatale below. The courtyard was open until 7:15pm but sadly we missed last entry inside at 6:15pm (in November).
  • Beautiful Palace, well preserved. Check out the basement as well
  • Absolutely stunning building with an interesting collection of various artworks. Wonderful views over the town and the rolling hills from the tower.
