#13 of 17 in Nature in Umbria
Mount Subasio is a mountain of the Apennine mountains, in the province of Perugia, Umbria, central Italy. On its slopes are located the ancient towns of Assisi and Spello. The mountain stands about 1290 metres above sea level. Its pink colored stones were used for many Franciscan buildings at the World Heritage site of Assisi. The area is included in the natural park Parco del Monte Subasio.HistoryCastle Sasso Rosso on the slope of Mount Subasio was the site of Saint Clare of Assisi and Saint Agnes of Assisi's childhood since according to tradition they were the daughters of Favorino Scifi, Conte of Sasso-Rosso, the wealthy representative of an ancient Roman family, who owned a large palace in Assisi as well. The Benedictine Abbot of St. Benedict of Monte Subasio gave the little church of Porziuncola around 1208 to St. Francis of Assisi, on condition of making it the mother house of his religious family.Sources and references St. Agnes of Assisi

We chose to climb to the top of mount Subasio in motion and we had a wonderful experience. There probably will be judged more interesting for people used to ride a bike but as far as we are concerned the views and roads made Saturday 3 June will always remain in our hearts ...

Recommended going right these days, with snow! Maybe with dogs if you have them, and reach at least the shelter of the forest. The landscape from above, white, is really nice! Ideal also for slides.

The choice of walks to do in "mountain" for those who don't want to leave too much of the territory of Perugia is not very extensive and the hike to the top of mount Subasio is definitely an alternative. The streets provide Summit practically drive but of course there are several parking lots in order to experience more or less tiring. The circular trail that you can do around the top is pretty thrashed and the only rest areas where you can camp out are structures, the keys of which are in the hands of the Ranger. It is still possible to make a request to access it. I personally am not was very pleased with the walk described above: in practice we follow a kind of ring around the peak remained barren areas, without a tree and no shade, so if you catch a sunny day guard with hats and sunscreen. The view will satisfy in part the effort even if not by much, especially for those who have lived the Alps far and wide. That is why I wrote this title perhaps a little too mean. Probably you should also visit the lower areas.
