  • A little seedy and now ruined by an underground hypermodern, remains one of the lungs of the city and a landmark surrounded by beautiful buildings. Starting point for a tour of Udine.

  • At the foot of the Hill of the castle of Udine a very singular square (Piazza Primo Maggio ") provides for centuries the first received visitors of the ancient city of Friuli (once strangers, now tourists) and visitors to the Basilica-sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the graces (formerly the pilgrims, today the faithful). Over the centuries the square has changed structure and destination, originally Lake (legendarily dug by the Huns in 452 a.d. to erect the pass that enabled the King Attila to contemplate from a distance the burning of Aquileia), then square (after the landfill during the middle ages, used primarily to hold fairs and markets) who under Napoleon assumed its present wide elliptical shape tree planting so assume more and more the appearance of a vast garden, retained even after the advent of mass motorization (traffic and parking), so much so that for the Udine the square is commonly called "Zardin Grant" (Garden). The Green dominates in the form of hills (the slopes of the Hill of the Castle), in flat form (grassy areas with gentle hillock inside the great ellipse with central fountain) and in a structured way (Garden "Loris Fortuna"). The square is bordered by the Hill of the Castle, the Basilica of grace, from Lungoroggia "Alexander van dung", by major school buildings (twentieth-century Classical Music "Jacopo Ottelio" Palace Conservatory Stellini, nineteenth century art school "Angel Sello", medieval College boarding house "Uccellis") and access to old town (thirteenth Door "Manin" and via "Porta Nuova"). Ample underground parking has recently been opened to complement the outdoor parking along the ellipse; several restaurants and Inns provide a popular food and wine; periodic events enliven the garden square (blessing of the animals; Fiera di s. Caterina; Food Truck; reuse markets; etc.).

  • Excellent solution for those who must stay several hours in the city. The prices are very affordable Park (even less than half of those on the surface in the same Plaza). Fabulous location!
