  • The new Museum of modern and contemporary art of Udine is one of the most original and sophisticated of its kind: a Pearl in the heart of historic udinese, still not very well known but destined to become an impregnable excellence in the field of contemporary life. The Museum is housed in the Casa Carmelo inside the Palace completely restored by a sophisticated and ingenious Morpurgo, the architect Gae Aulenti and opened to the public in 2012. La Casa Carmelo was left to the municipality of Udine for testamentary will of patron Dante Carstens and includes today the renovated apartment in the 1930s by architect rationalist Ermes Majak. Visiting confronts us with the original furniture of kitchen, dining-room, small offices and private rooms, with the impressive cycles painted by Afro Basaldella in 1938. The three brothers Dino, Mirko and Afro Basaldella is also dedicated a wide and beautiful permanent exhibition on the first floor of the Museum. On the second floor there are some real surprises for fans of contemporary art, because in the two Collections Astaldi and FRIAM are masterpieces that span the arc from 20 to 70 's with example: De Chirico, Carrà, Pisis, Morandi, Guttuso, Savinio, Liechtenstein and more. On the ground floor of the complex has spacious rooms dedicated to temporary exhibitions, always of the highest quality: there currently is the section the 2017 East Asian contemporary art exhibition entitled "Paradoxa", which houses this year, three Chinese artists Cheng Ran, Xie Nanxing and Chen Wei. Useful to get a guided tour to fully enjoy all the parts of the complex.

  • Historical building to visit just for the magnificent restoration work that has been done, the exhibits (permanent temporary upper floors on the ground floor) are very interesting and well appreciated, the setting is immaculately maintained. Prices are more than reasonable, with the possibility of reductions for many categories (University students, younger than 30 etc.)
