  • The Church of San Pietro is a wonder of Romanesque art, is located in a beautiful landscaped garden and the Interior is partly painted. Extremely beautiful mosaics on the floors and the rose window. A visit to do absolutely in order to appreciate the beauty of this Church inside and out ... ...

  • What a big step way back into history!
  • Heavily damaged and rebuilt after the earthquake of 71 maintains the front with the stunning rose window and the beautiful portal. Has the space in front of Santa Maria and the other wonderful Church of Tuscania, but the smaller size make it a more intimate experience.

  • On the Hill of San Pietro in Tuscania, once the seat of the Bishop's fortified town in the 11th century and a symbol of the power of bishops accounts, we find the impressive basilica of St. Peter. Is wonderful, with the façade that overlooks a green lawn, flanked by two towers and the Bishop's Palace over a stone Archway. The Church, founded in the 8th century in Romanesque style, was completely rebuilt in the 9th century the Lombard Romanesque style: suffered changes in 12th century. with the lengthening of the nave and the construction of the new façade; until the 15th century was the Cathedral of Tuscania. The Interior has a Basilica, with three naves with transept, presbytery with ciborium and Bishop's seat. The right aisle retains a 13th century ciborium and the main entrance to the crypt, divided into 9 aisles and supported by 28 pillars. Because of its location, isolated from the village, was used as a location in several films, including Zeffirelli's "Romeo and Juliet" and "Uccellacci e Uccellini" of Pasolini (in Toto).

  • An authentic architectural jewel. A building with considerable stratification and look really impressive. The context around is also very nice. A church to visit.

  • One of the pearls of Tuscania, reachable from the medieval village, either on foot or by car. Not to be missed.

Where to stay in Tuscania

Tuscania lodgings are largely located within the small town's medieval city walls, close to the main historical attractions, restaurants, and cafes. With dining terraces offering views of the rolling landscape, luxury hotels here tend to be pretty small (book ahead), but, housed in historic buildings and fitting seamlessly in with the look of the town, they have loads of character. Some budget-friendly bed and breakfasts can be found dotted along side streets. Many visitors will arrive as part of a day trip from Rome, located to the south.
