Piazza Castello, Turin

(4.8/5 based on 2,800+ reviews on the web)
Piazza Castello is the urban center of one of northern Italy's most important cities and was Italy's first capital. Wander the square to admire the Royal Palace, Royal Library, and the Royal Theater, among other structures. The old castle, from which the plaza takes its name, is a fortress built atop Roman ruins. Explore the portico-lined arcades along the square's perimeter of the square. They connect to many of the area's shopping streets. • Piazza Castello is the downtown, as well as Palazzo Madama and Palazzo Reale overlooking this square the eighteenth-century Church of San Lorenzo, a casket.

  • On the square facing buildings with arcades representing the power over the gate of the Royal Palace, the Savoy townhouse since mid-1600, in the Centre Palazzo Madama which has the special feature of having a medieval façade and the other Baroque; before this, a fountain with jets that depart from the pavement: students of the town in June celebrating here, with repeated "showers", the end of the school year.

  • With the Centre Palazzo Madama and the fountains built recently, the square has become livable since cars can no longer circulate freely. Also you can go to the Church of San Lorenzo, the Piazzetta Reale with the Royal armoury. You can not come to Turin without seeing this square!!!

  • Very nice graphic city centre square. We went there during Christmas time, and was very nicely decorated. A place to go when you visit Turin!
  • Lots of little shops, nice scenery, connected to some of the most walked streets of Turin
  • Main square in Turin. Really central in the city. If you are on Via Roma, via Garibaldi, via Po or via Pietro Micca just keep walking and you can get to Piazza Castello. There are bars for aperitifs and pizza shops. Three of the main museums in Turin are located in Piazza Castello: palazzo Reale, Armenia Reale and Palazzo Madama.
  • Simply the best square in town, just less classy than Piazza San Carlo.
  • Best open-sky market ever
