Piazza Castello, Turin

#6 of 281 in Things to do in Turin
Piazza Castello is the urban center of one of northern Italy's most important cities and was Italy's first capital. Wander the square to admire the Royal Palace, Royal Library, and the Royal Theater, among other structures. The old castle, from which the plaza takes its name, is a fortress built atop Roman ruins. Explore the portico-lined arcades along the square's perimeter of the square. They connect to many of the area's shopping streets. Not a good memory of the passage in Turin which is surely not the most beautiful city in the world but this place is pretty big and beautiful

Huge square. Unfortunately, in August the spectacular fountains were turned off. But the square is immense and the Royal Palace stands out over all. Wonderful.

To get to the royal palace of Turin, you will necessarily pass through this square Castello, this one is clearly worth the glance and the little picture that goes with!

  • The SQUARE. The place where historic honorable citizens of Turin gathered for meetings, a walk or see the Savoy family. It is astonishing to wander arount the square, its corners and buildings. Piazza Castello had been the Medal Plaza for Turin 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Nowadays is still used for concerts, events. A must see for all tourists.
  • Dig into the history before you go to really understand what you are looking at. I go back often as I add more history to my experience.
  • Great view across the Po-river, but the piazza did not feel special on a working day afternoon. However, our host was revisiting after memories of long summer nights with colleagues from an academic conference, and I can see that being magic.
  • Great location, nice place - food very reasonably priced. Waitress was a cracker too which helps ! 😁
  • A really nice place. It can also be used as a point from which you can visit the whole city something like your gathering point, with a lost of hystorical places to visit.
