Soaked in history and filled with art, Palazzo Reale was once the hub of the city’s political power. Together with the surrounding buildings, this palace formed a regional command center for the powerful House of Savoy. Originally built in the 16th century, the opulent palace was further expanded and modified in the 17th century. Renowned architect Filippo Juvarra was hired by Victor Amadeus, the head of the Savoy dynasty, to modernize the palace up to 17th-century standards. The architect’s most famous addition was a grand staircase. Later, Claudio Francesco Beaumont, a distinguished artist who was the dynasty’s official painter, embellished many of the palace’s chambers. Today, the palace offers visitors a chance to glimpse the grandeur in which the European aristocracy once lived and worked. Be sure to visit the on-site museum, with a historic armory displaying a vast collection of old weapons. • Very large museum. Many areas of the museum were quite empty even it was August 2019. Very well build collections and exchipitions are huge. Building itself is of course full of history. You should...  more »
  • The appearance of the Royal Palace, beautiful but not breath-taking, does not suggest the splendor inside. It was a symbol of the wealth of the Savoy Dynasty, and the center of its governing power...  more »
  • This is a wonderful look into the royalty of Savoy. Similar to other royal palaces, the unique offering is the armory. A slow tour do to crowds.  more »

  • While the Savoys may have built this palace to compete with Vienna and Versailles, it doesn't really come close. The tour is short, but the rooms are quite opulent. This is a must-see from an historical perspective,We contemplated booking a tour with a guide but the cost would have been $124 for two people for 2&1/2 hours.
  • This excellent experience in beautiful Turin is a must-see. There can be a certain line up to buy the tickets but once you are in, the place does not feel crowded as it is plenty big. It is very well kept, and you have a glance into Italian royalty and their lifestyle. The building itself if very beautiful and so are the gardens… A great experience in Turin. So much to see. make sure you leave a few hours at least to do it justice. The antiquities museum was well done and the armoury was incredibly extensive.
  • You should really make time to visit this wonderful palace while in Turin. You will need a few hours though as it is simply huge. The approach to the Palace, through the Piazza Castello, gives you a good idea of what is to come. Your visit should start in the stunning general palace rooms (throne rooms, ballrooms, chambers, etc.) which is self-guided. We were lucky to time our visit just right to be able to join an English guided tour of the Visiting Diplomat's and the Queen's quarters. The tour, given by the very knowledgeable Fredrica, was amazing. The Savoys certainly knew how to do style ! During the self-guided tour you will visit the massive Palace Armoury... just amazing. Don't miss the dome area of the Cathedral of St John the Baptist where the Turin Shroud was originally held. Once you are finished in the rooms, you can move onto the gallery section which includes room after room of paintings. The is also the library section to visit. All excellent.
  • So impressive! What a sightseeing find. We had a few hour layover in Turin, and I am so happy we stopped. The art and artifacts are incredible. Seeing the Shroud of Turin at the end was so moving. I loved the armor and armory rooms with all the swords.
  • It is such a nice place to visit. I love this palace. It has nice decoration and many stuffs.
