Palazzo Reale, Turin

4.1
#2 of 24 in Historic Sites in Turin
Soaked in history and filled with art, Palazzo Reale was once the hub of the city’s political power. Together with the surrounding buildings, this palace formed a regional command center for the powerful House of Savoy. Originally built in the 16th century, the opulent palace was further expanded and modified in the 17th century. Renowned architect Filippo Juvarra was hired by Victor Amadeus, the head of the Savoy dynasty, to modernize the palace up to 17th-century standards. The architect’s most famous addition was a grand staircase. Later, Claudio Francesco Beaumont, a distinguished artist who was the dynasty’s official painter, embellished many of the palace’s chambers. Today, the palace offers visitors a chance to glimpse the grandeur in which the European aristocracy once lived and worked. Be sure to visit the on-site museum, with a historic armory displaying a vast collection of old weapons. After so many years I come to visit the Royal Museums, I must compliment the great advances made this management. Finally a clear signage, a management of large inflows, ordered and the long-awaited map real pole. There is still much work to be done as dining options along the way, the permanently open kitchens and apartments Queen l, not to mention the sale of ceramics and of the Chapel Royal, indoors for too long and not least audio guides and a bookshop. Workplace c é n é. I praise instead with in room staff, attentive and prepared, as few. Additional information of some rooms or pieces of exhibition dates with passion by explaining and answering so fully to the curious visitor who paused and asked of any age or geographical origin. Their presence was always marked by a smile that greets visitors. Good job everyone and thank you

Beautiful rooms to see in the Palazzo Reale. Our favorite was the room with all of the armor which also contains horses with beautifully decorated armor.  more »

Palace which hosted the Bourbons to their full glory. Well maintained rooms with tapestries, paintings and beautiful collection of clocks that highlight the splendor of the period. Audio guide included in the price of your ticket which allows you a nice tour. The dogs even if they are small and kept in your arms can not enter.

  • A green place in which to rest after a stroll downtown.

  • The Royal gardens extend both inside and outside the walls, the inner ones after years of closure were reopened but only one part, that beside the manica lunga, the renovation has produced a fountain as seen from old prints, to see even if the visit is really limited.

  • A bit of a disappointment.

  • Just open a part of the gardens that have been restored. For now the entrance is for free. Very pleasant to take a walk, the garden is simple but very well maintained. There are lounge chairs to relax in.

  • Not so long ago finally opened the Royal gardens, before that had been closed for a very long time, the entrance looks like two euros worth.
