Castello di San Giusto, Trieste
(4/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Head to Castello di San Giusto, a former Roman fort, to visit the city museum's impressive collection of weapons and furnishings. Set atop a large hill, the 15th-century castle also boasts a collection of mosaic tiles, statuary, and burial stones, which are hidden in a series of deep underground cellars accessed from one corner of the site. Frederick of Habsburg initiated construction of the castle, which was finished by Venetians. Pay attention to the metal statues that welcome you at the entrance, which tell the entertaining story of Mike and Jake. • Worth it for the view ... for ' common ' people like me, a large Museum of arms ... not sure if I would stay here again ....

  • This fortress was built in the XV century and expanded during the following centuries. There you can visit the lapidario tergestino, the Chapel, the Museum of arms and the inner courtyard. Loved the view of the city of Trieste, which can be enjoyed from the stands.

  • More than a castle, it is a fortress with an exceptional view of the city. Inside you have the opportunity to visit two museums. The Civic Museum and Armory is well worth a visit. Don't miss the lapidario Tergestino in bastion Ladan just great. Advice to check out the great video explanation at the entrance to the Museum.

  • Panoramic views from the battlements across all of Trieste. The castle itself contains an excellent museum on the city's history, with particularly strong sections on its Roman history as the settlement of Tergestum.
  • Great views of the city & an interesting museum too ( which is all in Italian but still interesting too). Definitely worth the walk up the hill.
  • Great Views! You get a panoramic opportunity to see the city around. Artifacts sprinkled throughout.
  • Nice place to visit alone or with a group. However, it can be a bit confusing to view the whole site in a linear fashion. Don't forget to go to the armory!
  • Interesting old, well-maintained castle. The parts which are open to tourists are good, but limited. There are some brochures in English available, but most everything is in Italian.
