Castello di San Giusto, Trieste

(4/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Head to Castello di San Giusto, a former Roman fort, to visit the city museum's impressive collection of weapons and furnishings. Set atop a large hill, the 15th-century castle also boasts a collection of mosaic tiles, statuary, and burial stones, which are hidden in a series of deep underground cellars accessed from one corner of the site. Frederick of Habsburg initiated construction of the castle, which was finished by Venetians. Pay attention to the metal statues that welcome you at the entrance, which tell the entertaining story of Mike and Jake. • Maybe our visit was very fast. It is a beautiful castle, it shows all its historicity, but frankly, you just don't get much. I have to say though, the walls higher we could appreciate a beautiful sunset, Red Sun that he plunged into the blue sea. Nice

  • First, you have to have good legs to hop on and off all staircases. still worth nice inside and rich in history, enjoys a panorama in 360° views of the city.

  • If you get to walk there is a nice climb to do, otherwise you can take the bus. Inside there is a large backyard then various high and low paths overlooking the sea and the city. We also visited the Museum with ancient mosaics, Roman remains, weapons of war. Overall a nice stroll especially for the view from the top.

  • Panoramic views from the battlements across all of Trieste. The castle itself contains an excellent museum on the city's history, with particularly strong sections on its Roman history as the settlement of Tergestum.
  • Great views of the city & an interesting museum too ( which is all in Italian but still interesting too). Definitely worth the walk up the hill.
  • Great Views! You get a panoramic opportunity to see the city around. Artifacts sprinkled throughout.
  • Nice place to visit alone or with a group. However, it can be a bit confusing to view the whole site in a linear fashion. Don't forget to go to the armory!
  • Interesting old, well-maintained castle. The parts which are open to tourists are good, but limited. There are some brochures in English available, but most everything is in Italian.
