Castello di San Giusto, Trieste
(4/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
Head to Castello di San Giusto, a former Roman fort, to visit the city museum's impressive collection of weapons and furnishings. Set atop a large hill, the 15th-century castle also boasts a collection of mosaic tiles, statuary, and burial stones, which are hidden in a series of deep underground cellars accessed from one corner of the site. Frederick of Habsburg initiated construction of the castle, which was finished by Venetians. Pay attention to the metal statues that welcome you at the entrance, which tell the entertaining story of Mike and Jake. • It is very close to the Cathedral of San Giusto. We caught only entry to visit abroad and it was enough. Spectacular views and a small bar a delight was to rest sunbathing in November.

  • or the sunset. For the Castle, you pay € 1 entrance for the Museum € 8. We have looked at only the Castle and enjoyed the views of the city and the Sun on the various terraces. Also the way to the Castle, the old town is a journey of discovery! Have fun!

  • Panoramic views from the battlements across all of Trieste. The castle itself contains an excellent museum on the city's history, with particularly strong sections on its Roman history as the settlement of Tergestum.
  • Great views of the city & an interesting museum too ( which is all in Italian but still interesting too). Definitely worth the walk up the hill.
  • Great Views! You get a panoramic opportunity to see the city around. Artifacts sprinkled throughout.
  • Nice place to visit alone or with a group. However, it can be a bit confusing to view the whole site in a linear fashion. Don't forget to go to the armory!
  • Interesting old, well-maintained castle. The parts which are open to tourists are good, but limited. There are some brochures in English available, but most everything is in Italian.
