  • The Palazzo Pretorio was Bishop's residence until the mid-13th century. Along with the Bell Tower and the impressive structure of the Trento Cathedral, is the impressive scenery of Piazza Duomo in Trento. Erected in 1220 by Prince Bishop Federico Vanga, was the seat of the Bishops of Trento, the municipality, the Mayor and the Court. The main building stands on the ruins of two churches, St John the Baptist and Saint Blaise. Ghibelline battlements, presents on the main façade is adorned with two orders of mullioned Windows on the first floor and mullioned Windows on the second floor. A recent restoration has returned to its original Romanesque appearance of the 13th century fortified residence. The Praetorian Palace now houses the prestigious Museo Diocesano Tridentino, in memory of the famous Council. Originally the Tower was the Tower of Palazzo Pretorio. It was built before the 11th century and raised on several occasions. Today accompanies, with big clock, the passage of time, but in the past it was used as a gaol and inside houses the Bell of Renga, namely calling the arengo, i.e. to public assemblies and at death sentences carried out in below Piazza Duomo.
